WELL LOOKIE HERE, GUYS, ANOTHER CHAPTER TODAY. X3 We're sure spoiling you lot.
This chapter, you guys get the DETAILS. ;D
HEE HEE, ENJOY.
--
The morning rays of light were a little bothersome to the alien, mostly because they were right in her face. A tiny tendril, snaking out from beneath her thick blanket, wrapped around the corners of the fabric and yanked it upward to cover her head so that the light could intrude no longer. She knew it was fruitless, though, considering that she needed to wake up soon, anyway. But the few extended moments of darkness were still slightly comforting.
Finally, with a strong surge of effort, Nalo pushed the covers of her blanket down and sat up, rubbing a weary wrist over her eyes while she tried to clear her hazy mind that was still slightly submerged in the waters of sleep. Her morning routine was simple, and so she set about that with ease, moving around the room as though it was a normal morning.
Her window was large, circular, and gave her a great view of the wide yard around their Galactic Headquarters. Sweeps of grass, towering trees, it was all so familiar to her. The sight was beautiful, especially when night came and the stars above her waved with their light-ridden enthusiasm. She was about to turn away from her window when her eyes caught something.
A line of leaves on the tree, flying upward, that all had slightly burned, black edges, as though someone had set fire to them.
And then it all came crashing back into her mind.
The conversation. The clumsy kiss.
Me and him. Him and I. We. Us. Together.
The girl stumbled back slightly from the window, her cheeks paling as a white blush flared across them. It had all felt so natural, so right, and it had happened, and he was out there, and he was. . . well, hers.
The blush faded, replaced with a smile. She quickly changed into her regular clothes, smoothing them out repeatedly to soothe strange nerves that were buzzing about in her mind. Ridiculous, she knew, to act differently, but could she help it?
Finally, calm and composed, she made for her door, and with a chin held high that was ready to face the world, she entered the hall-way and started for the cafeteria. A good, hardy breakfast would do her some good.
On the way, a familiar princess popped into view, grinning like a Mad Hatter. "Nalo!" The voice made the girl lock eyes with her, and Milo-Lee grinned wider. "Is it true? About you and Etoile?"
Wait.
She knew?
The blush was back, twice as bold as before, and Nalo's first thought was that Etoile had told them. But she dismissed that thought immediately, labeling it unlikely. The boy was as shy as a baby kitten and there was no way that he was going to go spreading the news around like that.
But there was no reason to lie, right? They were going to find out eventually. So Nalo, hesitantly and a little warily, nodded to her. Milo-Lee's eyes lit up like a child on Christmas morning. "I knew it!" And without another word, the girl sprinted away, leaving Nalo looking even more concerned.
Could someone have seen them, maybe?
Unlikely, but possible. And if someone had seen them, they would have been shocked, no doubt.
The two had been surprised, themselves. . .
"Nalo, Nalo!"
His face was eager when it appeared beside her, with sky-blue eyes twinkling like their own personal stars. Whatever he was excited about, she knew that it had to be special if his expression looked like that.
"Nalo, come with me, you have to see!" He beckoned her after him and the girl, caught up in curiosity and laughter, followed after him dutifully. His excitement was catching, and she found herself wondering what had ensnared his attention so much as to get him to practically leap with every step.
Her curiosity deepened when she realized that he was leading her up to the observatory, and she had to struggle to keep up with his eager form as he sprinted up the stairs. He was probably cheating and levitating himself forward, that would explain the speed. But she didn't mind - it only showed how enthusiastic he was about the entire thing.
The room was large and dome-shaped, with an open ceiling that showed the expansive sky. The stars nearby glittered brightly like tiny shards of crystal that were scattered across a blanket of darkness, but Etoile barely looked upward, bounding over to one of the largest telescopes that was angled off to the side.
"Look in." His voice had dropped to a whisper. The room, so celestial, seemed to command a certain awe, and Nalo felt that if she could speak, she would whisper, too. It felt wrong to speak any louder, as though one might disturb the universe's glory and sheer might.
Obediently, she bent over and looked inside the glass. There didn't seem to be anything at first, until she adjusted her eye a bit, and then a large sphere filled the glass fully. Nalo had never seen it before - a world of vibrant oranges and blues and greens and yellows. She had no idea what colors marked what kind of landscapes, but it was beautiful, and she turned to Etoile with a questioning smile.
"My planet. D'thlany," he murmured, sending an affectionate gaze at the telescope. "It's so small that it's hard to find, but I found it. Isn't it beautiful?"
The girl could only nod, catching the amount of emotion in his voice. A twist of sorrow, homesickness, pride, love, awe, all wrapped up into his tiny throat. She almost felt sorry for him as his eyes turned longingly upward. "It's even prettier in the spring, when everything is in bloom. I wish you could see it."
Suddenly, his expression became excited once more. "Maybe you could come visit it someday! I'd show you everything, all of it! The huge trees with colored leaves, the thick bushels that bear fruit in the fall, all of the greatest wonders! It's a little bright, but I'm sure you'd love it." His voice softened, still searching the sky. "I'm sure of it."
Her own gaze turned upward, but her eyes never made it to the sky. Instead, they caught notice of a small plant that was hanging from the ceiling above them. The ceiling, dome-shaped, was half-open to provide a view of the sky, but the other half was closed to protect some of the telescopes, and from the very edge, it was there, hanging.
Mistletoe.
Nalo's attention shot downward again to the alien and she nodded hastily to his words. But her eyes soon made their way back up to the plant again, and she wondered vaguely if he knew it was there. Probably not, since his own attentions were all caught up in his home planet.
The girl waited, listening to Etoile speak and interacting with him properly. She showed him her planet, answered questions with a shake or a nod of her head, and paid him her full gaze when he told her more about his home life. But her mind was constantly straying upward to the little sprig, taunting her with green leaves.
Come on, Etoile, look up. Don't you see it?
But he didn't. He was too enraptured with memories of home and with his conversation with her.
Suddenly, he paused, his hands suspended in mid-air from when he was using them to describe something. "Are you okay? You're acting a little. . . different."
The girl had to keep herself from blushing a bit at his words, nodding a little too quickly, and her eyes caught his. Full of color, life, enthusiasm. Eyes that she could read in a moment and know exactly how he was feeling. And in their blue depths, she saw a reflection of herself.
Leaning forward, the ends of her arms took a gentle hold on his shoulders, and the boy paused, looking startled and unsure. He seemed about to speak, but Nalo cut him off neatly by hesitantly covering his lips with hers.
Suddenly, she felt a little fear sweep through her; insecurities, wondering how he would react to her sudden action. He was completely still underneath her touch, and she could just barely hear the pounding of his multiple hearts, hammering away in his chest.
But. . . he hadn't pushed her away.
Shyly, Nalo began to kiss him, moving just a little closer and urging him to respond. And he did, moving his mouth with hers with the utmost care, as though he was experiencing the same hesitancy that she was. But she continued on, slowly losing her fear, coaxing him closer with each passing second.
His mouth had curved into a tiny smile; she could feel it, and she was satisfied. Soon, he was the one guiding the kiss, and his hands had lifted to gently cup the line of her jaw. Every single movement seemed entirely him - his lips were asking, gentle, sweet. Slow, but with a sense of purpose.
Eventually, they both pulled back, and Nalo couldn't help the wave of white that washed over her cheeks. Etoile's expression was perplexed, ecstatic, flustered. She only barely caught his whisper, his question that pierced the night air. "So. . . are we. . .?"
She burst into a full smile and nodded before he could even finish the question. His expression became alight with something she couldn't exactly name, and her eyes fell onto his fingertips, which had begun to glow brightly. Fingertips, she knew, that indicated his emotions.
Suddenly the wash of red encompassed his entire frame, lighting it up with scarlet flames. Without warning, the boy suddenly blasted off of the ground, soaring into the air above her and escaping into the night through the opening in the ceiling.
Crazy boy! She ran to the edge of the room and watched as he dipped down in his flight, skimming the ground before he turned his way back up again, brushing against the side of the tree and catching the tips of the leaves with power. His shout echoed through every corner of the wide grounds.
"YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH-HHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
After soaring upward enough that he looked as though he might land among the stars, he hurtled downward again, slowing just before he landed and touching back on the ground in front of her, looking wind-swept, ecstatic, and alive. His eyes were dancing joyously below his dangling curls of hair.
Her mouth curved upward into a smirk that he didn't need a notepad to translate. You're so silly.
His response was to lean forward and wrap his arms around her waist, capturing her mouth once more, and Nalo gave in to it with a feeling of warmth bubbling up through her insides.
Nalo shook herself out of the memory, feeling the lingering warmth on her face. Hurriedly, she made her way to the cafeteria, hoping that no one else would stop her.
She made it through the entire meal without being questioned, but it was only a matter of time before someone found her again, looking as though they were witnessing some kind of amazing event. "Nalo, is it true?"
Niji's intentions were polite enough - she just wanted to hear it from Nalo herself, not the rumors. So Nalo gave her a quick nod, even though she really just wanted some peace.
Suddenly, she realized who would give her the distraction that she needed. And she was his Secret Santa, so that would give her a perfect opportunity to spend some innocent time with him.
Her mind set, Nalo hurried away to find Nebulos, making a game of avoiding aliens on her path to search out her little blue friend.
--
"Etoile Zn'they Ganmade."
The boy stiffened when a dangerous whisper entered the caverns of his ears.
"I will kill you."
He whirled around, looking confused. Tala was angry with him on a regular basis, but this time, she was positively simmering with rage. As far as he could remember, he hadn't done anything wrong, so what was she so mad about? "Kill me? Why?"
"You." A finger poked sharply at his chest. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you. . .?"
"Tell me, brother, where exactly were you last night?"
Last ni-. . . oh.
The boy's face became violet and he tried to duck away from Tala to escape her boiling fury. "I, er. . . nowhere. N-nowhere at all, why do you ask?"
"In the observatory?"
"Er. . . no?"
"With Nalo?"
"Weeeelll. . ."
"I KNEW IT!" Her fist flew out and cuffed his shoulder. "I can't believe you! My own brother kisses Nalo in the observatory and he doesn't think it important enough to tell his own sister! What is this madness?! What has the world come to?!"
Etoile had no idea how she had found out, especially because he couldn't see Nalo spreading the word recklessly. And even more dangerous for him, he didn't know exactly why she was angry. "We didn't tell anyone! I. . . we were. . . I was going to tell you, I promise!"
"I had to find out from Cyril!" She was practically spitting venom by now.
"I'm sorry, I'm so-. . . Cyril?" Etoile blinked. "How did Cyril know?"
A huff of exasperation burst out from her lungs. "Nebulos saw you and told Lunira and Cyril overheard and told pretty much everyone. It took us a few minutes to figure out what he was saying between his overenthusiastic squawks, but we pieced it together."
"E-everyone. . .?"
Oh boy.
"You couldn't have even just mentioned it to me this morning! 'Oh, by the way, Tala, I made out with Nalo last night.'"
"We did'n-"
"'So, Tala, did you hear? I have a girlfriend!' Come on, at least something!"
"I was just-"
"I should strangle you for sibling abuse! This is inhumane! I have rights, buddy, and you just broke them! It's like an unwritten rule, and you defiled the laws of sibling nature! I have the right to freedom of levitation that says I can float WHEREVER THE BLAST I WANT, OKAY?"
"Uhh. . ."
"Wait, wrong law. I have the right to know about your romantic experiences! FROM YOUR OWN LIPS! Not from bird-brain's beak!"
"I'm sorry, alright?!"
By now, the two siblings were only inches apart from each other, both of them looking flustered from their strange, but still equally upset, argument. Tala suddenly straightened, crossing her arms and lifting her chin while she looked the other way. "I'll forgive you on one condition."
Etoile looked a little hesitant. Her condition was no doubt ridiculous. "What's that?"
"You and Nalo had better bear me some freakin' adorable nieces and nephews."
If his face had been violet before, then it was a flaming, overwhelming purple by now, and he began to sputter. "Wha- b-but we're- I-I mean it's not like- I d-don't. . . . what?"
"You heard me."
For the first time, Tala looked around to consider Etoile's circumstances. He was standing in the kitchen, over a bowl of what looked like dough, and his skin was sprinkled with flour. He was trying to ignore her statement as best he could, and so she changed the subject, mostly out of pity for him. "What on earth are you doing?"
"Nothing." He said this a little too quickly, and Tala lifted a doubting eyebrow at him.
"Secret Santa stuff, eh?"
"Tala, go bother someone else."
"But I'm having so much fun."
"You should be figuring out what to get Vibe."
"How do you know I have Vibe?!"
His eyes rolled in their sockets, indicating that he thought her a simpleton. "Because you asked me just a couple of days ago what Vibe likes. Tala, we're exchanging gifts tomorrow. Leave me in peace and go figure it out."
"I know what I'm getting her already."
"Oh really?"
"Yes." The girl looked proud of herself. "I stalked her a little bit the other day and I know exactly what I'm going to get her. So I have all the time in the world to bother you."
"Well, aren't I just the luckiest guy in the world."
