MY FIRST FIC ABOUT SOARE AND KOYU. <3
I wrote this because I was thinking about Soare's fears, and I realized she would probably have a lot of them. And then all of a sudden this ENTIRE SCENE just shoved its way into my head, and I had to write it.
As a warning, it gets pretty intense and sad near the middle.
I hope you guys enjoy it!

“Galactic Kids Next Door, BATTLE STATIONS!”
Soare wasn’t sure who made the shout, but it gave them the push that they needed and the squad jumped into action. The mass movement of bodies was a little dizzying, but she was far used to it by now and she followed the group as they streamed out of their ship and onto the field where a group of formidable opponents stood waiting.
The group glinted back at them, a twisted mirror image like a shattered glass. Faces that Soare knew, loved, cared for, all of them leering and snarling. Even one that looked like her face, save for the eyes that were so, so cold.
Soare hated the Negaverse.
“We each take our own?” someone barked, and beside Soare, her twin sister nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, we can handle them! Let’s go!”
With that, her sister darted forward, and a darker image of Koyu broke free from the opposing group to meet her, the two clashing almost instantly. Her friends all surged forward, crashing against their mirror images, and Soare fell back a step before searching for her own. Nega-Soare would be here somewhere.
A pair of taunting, glinting eyes suddenly leered into hers. “Found you!” her copy smirked gleefully, and a force hit Soare’s gut that sent her flying back over the grass. Tumbling, scraping, the girl came to a stop and used her hands to push herself off of the dirt. Stupid, she berated herself. Of course Nega-Soare would have telekinesis, too. Should have seen that coming.
A darker, shadowed expression grinned mockingly at her from above. “Come on, Soare! Get up!”
Jumping to her feet, Soare lifted her hands to push the girl away, only to realize that they weren’t glowing. “Koyu!” she shrieked, eyes widening, “I can’t-! I can’t reach it!” Fumbling for her telekinetic power, she felt more and more desperate as it slipped from her reaches, burrowing inside of her. “KOYU!”
Whips of metal slammed Nega-Koyu’s face into the group, giving Koyu the opportunity to respond. “I’m a little busy! You can find it!”
A force wrapped around her waist, and yanked Soare around until she smashed into a rock wall. Her doppelganger was beside her, grinning into her face. “Ready to play, Soare? Ready to really play? I know you, I know who you are.” Another grasp of power pulled on Soare, throwing her against another boulder. “Remember when you were afraid of the dark? Remember how you have to go to bed glowing, just to keep the monsters away? Remember?”
Nega-Soare lifted a hand, and rocks began to crumble from above, falling around them and creating a cavern that blocked out the light, save for tiny rays that slithered in between the cracks.
“S-stop it!” The whisper was much too weak. The darkness was seeping closer, faster, crawling along the walls, the floors, slithering up her legs and arms and enshrouding her, choking her, strangl-
“Fight me!”
With a smirk, Nega-Soare threw the girl against the wall, battering her on the hard surface like some kind of rag doll. Desperately, Soare reached for another rope of power, but she was only able to faintly light up the tips of her fingers, nothing more.
“Remember how you’re afraid of heights? How you’re supposed to be able to fly, but you can’t even lift off the ground without feeling sick? Some telekinetic you are!”
The rock ceiling exploded, and Soare realized that she was rocketing upward. Dizzying, sickening. She clutched at her stomach and squeezed her eyes shut, willing for it all to be over, or to be able to find strength. I can’t, I can’t-
“Fight me, Soare!”
Then she was hurtling downward, and Nega-Soare hurled her against the floor where Soare let out a shriek of pain, a million sparklets of pain ripping through her nerves. Her skin was throbbing, her head was pounding, her grip on her power was growing weaker with every minute, and Nega-Soare knew it.
And Nega-Soare took advantage of it.
“Remember how much you love your sister, Koyu? Remember? Remember how you look up to her because she’s everything you’ll never be?” A fist of power pounded into her gut. “You can’t be as strong as Koyu, brave as Koyu! Everyone knows she’s the better twin! Pathetic little Soare, can’t even fight back!”
Tears streamed out of the corners of Soare’s eyes, weaving paths in the dirt of her cheeks. Curling up into a smaller form, she whimpered, ready to let the life drip out of her body and into the ground, where it would settle and become nothing more than forgotten dust in the millions of particles that made up the planet. Nega-Soare loomed above her, smirking in victory over the girl’s body.
Soare thought she was finished when a new voice suddenly broke into the scene with fury blazing around the edges. “Don’t you TOUCH my baby sister!”
Long limbs whipped out and lashed at the darker form, driving her away from Soare, and in an instant, Koyu was knelt over her, wrapping her arms around her shoulders. “You’re alright, you’re okay. Open your eyes, Soare, it’s Koyu, I’m here, I’m with you.”
Blurred from tears, the younger sister opened her eyes and turned upward to look at the worried face of her sister, who’s expression relaxed when she realized that Soare had responded to her words. Over Koyu’s shoulder, Soare could see the form of Aaron, beating away at Nega-Soare while spitting snarling words through his clenched teeth.
“Are you okay?” Koyu pressed again, pulling Soare up into a sitting position.
Leaning into Koyu’s shoulder, the tears began to flow freely, and Soare’s shoulders heaved while she clung to her sister, trembling. “I-I tried to be strong, I wanted to be,” she mumbled, not even sure if Koyu could hear her over her shaking breath.
“I know.” Koyu pulled back and tipped up Soare’s chin to look at her, cracking a smile. “I won’t always be here to fight for you. I need you to be strong. I know you can be.”
“I’ll try. P-promise.” Pulled into a hug, Soare squeezed her sister’s shoulders tightly, trying to keep her there for eternity.
Koyu stood up after a few seconds, pulling her sister with her, and glanced around. “I think we’ve won the battle. Let’s go home and relax, okay?” A tenderness reserved for her family alone was present in Koyu’s voice, and Soare nodded eagerly. A few yards away, Aaron was looking over the crumpled form of Nega-Soare. He gave her a disdainful glance-over before turning and walking away, silently ignoring the scene as though it hadn’t happened.
“Thank you.” The whisper came softly still, and Koyu squeezed her hand. Casting an admiring glance at her sister out of the corner of her eye, Soare walked close to her and put on her best smile for the group that was slowly gathering back around the rocket, checking for injuries.
One day, she promised herself, I will be strong. Just like Koyu. I’ll beat enemies myself. They’ll see.
