A little Christmas fic revolving around Ynda and Dengeki. :3 Hope you guys enjoy!
And beware of a few curse words. XD;

December 25th.
The yearly Christmas dinner had been served and had filled the stomach of every alien present in the dining room of the Galactic Teens Next Door Base. Many of said aliens didn’t instantly leave after dinner, but stayed to chat with each other, mainly about the presents they had gotten and given this year. However, as soon as she was full, the smallest alien present decided she was not up for jolly chitchat and left the room to find a quiet place.
Ynda was seated on one of the couches in the Main Room. She knew that it was always empty during Christmas dinner and it wasn’t the first time she took profit of this rare occasion. She was currently enjoying the Christmas gift Nebulos had given her – the sequel to a romance book series she loved.
Over the years, Ynda had found herself less and less alerted on keeping her love for romance a secret, and could only thank her friend for granting her a gift of which he knew she’d like it. However, she did prefer to read in silence and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere in the room to the fullest, as it gave her the perfect opportunity to lean back and sink away into the story.
Unfortunately for her, this silence didn’t last long. Only a few minutes had passed when she heard a pair of footsteps approach the room. Inwardly cursing whoever was about to interrupt her quiet reading moment, she tried to remain focused on her book until the other alien entered the room.
“What are you doing here, Fishface?” she asked in a tone that made absolutely clear she did not wish to welcome him, as if the room was completely hers. Her eyes were still directed to the pages in front of her, but his presence left her unable to concentrate on the written words.
Dengeki seemed to ignore the uninviting tone and the fact in the first place she wasn’t even looking at him. Without a word, he moved over to the only taken couch in the room and took a seat on the border of Ynda’s personal space.
“What’s wrong with taking a simple walk?” he sent a question right back at her. He looked at her, despite the fact she still refrained from making eye contact with something other than her book.
“This couch is taken, go find another one,” Ynda snapped, growing annoyed with his choice to sit on her own. She was not in the mood to argue with him and felt like giving him a black eye if he was merely here to tease her, instead of getting a life and leaving her in peace for once.
“But I like sit on this one,” Dengeki replied with a small grin. He was already aware he was annoying Ynda, but he wasn’t at all bothered by it. In fact, he would be rather disappointed if she was fine with his interference. Even after a few years, it was still fun to get a reaction out of her.
Ynda exhaled a sigh that sounded like it neared at the edge of a growl. She slammed her book closed and roughly turned her head in Dengeki’s direction, staring so hard it seemed she was piercing straight through his hair into his blue eyes.
“I’m not in the mood for this,” she stated the obvious. “If you’re only here to waste your time on irritating me, I suggest you find someone else harass. I was enjoying my book.”
“You’re so quick to accuse,” he pointed out with a small pout. “Do you say that to everyone who disturbs your little hobby?”
“No, I say that to those who are generally disturbing, meaning you,” she growled while she stood up on the couch and grabbed her novel. He might be up for wasting his time, but she sure as hell wasn’t, and she was going to find a better reading spot immediately.
“Aww, your words cut me like knives,” he responded before she could move any further. He sounded like he was hurt, but she could tell by his widened grin that he was doing nothing but enjoying the situation. And did that piss her off.
“Yeah, well, be careful what you say or I’ll feel obliged to take those words literally,” she warned him and turned away to move off the couch. But his reply managed to keep her frozen at the spot.
“Oh, so you want to cut me? Go ahead and try it.”
Ynda felt an eye twitch as she could sense how Dengeki, on his turn, shot a piercing stare right back at her. His eyes were longing to challenge her, provoke her further, get her to make a fuss over nothing. Sadly, it worked.
She dropped her book on the couch and turned fully to him this time, her arms spread at the sides. “Gladly,” she announced in a hiss, extracting sharp claws from her six fingers.
Dengeki was still seated on his original spot, carrying the same teasing grin. “Are you sure about that?” He raised an eyebrow, although it wasn’t visible. “It’s Christmas, you know. You should be aware by now you’re not supposed to fight during such a peaceful time.”
“You’re the one who told me to cut you, not a very nice person,” Ynda snapped, not at all in the mood to listen to this Christmas-peace-on-Earth-crap. “Besides, you disrupted my peace. It’s only fair I get you back.”
Dengeki shrugged simply. “Hm, I suppose so. Speaking of which, what were you reading?”
Before she had a chance to stop him, his arm reached straight over her head and pulled back with the book in his hand. Eyes wide in shock, Ynda couldn’t believe Dengeki would actually be interested in romance novels. When she spotted his mocking grin, she realized she was right.
“You not a very nice person!” she repeated in a scream and instantly jumped on his lap, starting to bounce up and down in order to grab the book from him. “Give it back, that’s mine!”
Dengeki, visibly having the time of his life, purposely held the book too high for her to reach. “Come on, you can’t handle a single joke?”
“This is not a joke! Give me back my book before I--…”
Ynda interrupted herself when she looked past her book towards the ceiling, where she found a pair of mistletoe plants hanging right above their heads. Instantly distracted, she forgot to land on her feet and fell on her butt, much to Dengeki’s amusement.
“Hey, I get that you’re angry, but it’s a little overdone if you can’t even stand on your feet,” he commented. He appeared oblivious to Ynda’s discovery, until the smaller alien sat up and slowly pointed a finger at the ceiling. Curiously, he followed her startled gaze and soon widened his own eyes at what was innocently hovering above them.
Both aliens were left in silence from that moment. Time ticked away while they slowly glanced from the mistletoe at each other. Their gazes seemed empty from shock, but filled with notion at the same time. They were well aware of what the concept of mistletoe implied according to Earth rules, which was probably the reason for instant blushes to have appeared on their faces. Ynda’s cheeks had turned dark green, Dengeki’s were a deep shade of teal.
After several minutes, they eventually broke eye contact and each looked aside, feeling more awkward the longer this silence lasted. While they had been so noisy before, they were now completely stunned by a piece of plant, simply because they knew what it meant. A kiss was something they had both secretly thought of occasionally, but there was no way they would push away their pride to mention one bit of that desire. Mistletoe wasn’t going to change that.
“Convenient, isn’t it?”
Dengeki was the first to break the silence, and with that, fix his eyes back upon Ynda. He tried to flash his grin once more, but it clearly cost him more effort this time.
Ynda didn’t seem to notice the change, seeing as her own expression was still set to stunned when she regained eye contact. “What?”
“I just said it must be convenient for you,” Dengeki explained casually. “Seeing as you’ve been giving me this… suggestive look for months now, I’m assuming you think of that mistletoe up there as the perfect chance to kiss me.”
Ynda felt as though she had exploded from her extremely increasing blush. “W-WHAT?!” she exclaimed, automatically backing away in shock. “Where do you get up with ideas like that?! Like hell I would want to kiss you!” Offended, she turned away her head and crossed her arms stubbornly over her chest, but her reaction only confirmed Dengeki’s impression instead of disclaiming it.
“If that were true, you wouldn’t freak out like this,” he pointed out, now having fully regained his confident smirk. “Don’t you think I’ve noticed the way you look at me sometimes? I’m not an idiot, I’ve seen it before.” Eager to embarrass her further, he bowed forward and leaned his head close to hers, so close she could see his hidden eyes if she looked. “I know you want to kiss me.”
She didn’t take the assertion lightly. Filled with indignation, Ynda lashed out and slapped a flat paw across his face, her teeth clenched with fury.
“How dare you,” she hissed lowly. “You conceited, self-absorbed bastard. There is no way I would ever want to kiss you, and the same goes for every other girl you know. You’re nothing but an arrogant player and I know you’re just trying to add me to your list of victims. Forget it, not a very nice person. You’re not fooling me.”
Ynda then turned away from the taller alien, not realizing she just offended him twice as much as he had done her. Aside from letting her snatch her book back from his hand, Dengeki didn’t make a sound. His head was turned slightly sideways as a result of Ynda’s smack. Even though it hadn’t hurt him much, her words had truly managed to get to him. He knew he liked to flirt, but he had never considered himself close to being a player. Where was her right to accuse him of collecting ‘victims’?
He was going to get her back for this, and the quickest way he knew was to come off as what Ynda thought of him. Just as she was about to hop off the couch with her book, he suddenly reached his hand in her direction and grabbed hold of her tail, lifting her without a warning.
Ynda squealed in both pain and shock, accidentally losing hold of her book in the process. Before she knew it, she was held upside down in front of Dengeki’s face. Even though her vision was currently blurred due to the sudden action, she could tell Dengeki’s smirk had completely vanished and had been replaced with a grimace. A vengeful one.
“What are you doing?!” she cried out while she started to struggle, but she soon found out she was in no position to go anywhere.
“We’re under the mistletoe,” he reminded her sharply. “That means we’re supposed to kiss.”
Ynda’s cheeks instantly flushed as deeply as they did a minute ago, although it was fear rather than embarrassment that darkened them this time. Determined not to give up, she struggled even more, but to no avail.
“Are you crazy?!” she exclaimed, her fear clearly audible in her voice.
Dengeki’s grimace widened, but he didn’t seem satisfied with Ynda showing weakness only. “You said yourself I’m a player.”
“That doesn’t mean you have to rub it in!” she protested, still struggling madly. “If you do anything indecent to me, I’ll accuse you of molestation!”
“Really?” His dark grimace finally turned into a playful grin. “The strong, stubborn Ynda interrupting Christmas dinner to tell every alien present she’s been molested? I don’t think so.”
And neither did she. Ynda could hardly stand the embarrassment in thought, let alone in real life. It seemed she had to put up with his will at the moment, even though it made her loathe him more with each passing second.
Eventually, she stopped struggling, but she refused to look him in the eye. She crossed her arms once again, trying to get her grumpy attitude back. Seeing as she didn’t reply, Dengeki decided to speak again.
“You know I’m not a player,” he calmly told her. “So I don’t appreciate comments like that. You didn’t need to be so rude just because of a little joke.”
Ynda squeezed her eyes shut, hating his words because she knew he was right. In spite of her uncomfortable position, she refused to admit that.
“You offended me,” she answered weakly. “I get angry when I’m offended. I didn’t appreciate your joke about wanting to kiss you, either.”
Dengeki seemed surprised for a moment. His careless expression having faded for a serious one, he lifted his free hand and turned Ynda around before placing her in it. Knowing she was able to see that he wasn’t fooling around this time, he slowly said: “That wasn’t a joke. I was talking about that look.”
Ynda’s first instinct after having been released was to make a run for it, but she knew he’d probably manage to catch her again. On top of that, she couldn’t help but feel a little curious, and talking to him might be worth a shot now that he finally seemed serious. “What are you talking about?” she asked just as slowly.
Dengeki flashed her a small smile. “It’s not like I’ve actually seen you look at me in a suggestive way. I know you’d never do that. But I do know you want to kiss me.”
Ynda was about to protest, but he softly placed a fingertip on her lips to keep her quiet.
“Let me finish. There’s no need to deny it, Ynda. I couldn’t tell by the way you looked at me, I could sense it whenever we were alone together. But it’s not like you’d ever admit that. Not even now.”
Dengeki’s smile widened in a sympathetic fashion when he saw that he had left Ynda completely speechless. She simply gaped at him without response, probably because she had no clue on what to say. Protesting to his words became so difficult when he spoke them this sincerely.
Ynda looked away after a moment, deciding to ask the one question that was currently burning inside of her. “Even if I did… admit I want to kiss you… what would you say…?” She hated how her words came out quietly and shyly, especially compared to his confident behavior.
When she felt he lifted the hand she was sitting on, she quickly looked at him again, curious as to what he was planning. Still with that compassionate smile on his face, he replied in a whisper: “I’d say I want to kiss you back.”
Ynda merely had time to blink a couple of times, during which she was half able to only acknowledge what he had just said to her. She wasn’t granted more than these few seconds, seeing as Dengeki didn’t need more to move his face closer; way too close on any other occasion. But this time, she decided to follow his example. Her eyes shut the moment their lips locked and she could feel she was dark green again, but it didn’t matter. She knew he was blushing just as much, and better yet – that he wanted this, too.
By the time they pulled back, Ynda felt as though their kiss had lasted for a couple of minutes. Although she knew it couldn’t be that long, she found herself unable to deny the heavy beating of her three hearts and the warm feeling inside her body. She had just, willingly, kissed the guy she was used to arguing with on a daily basis. But maybe those arguments were the key to her secret fondness of him. Perhaps crush was a better word.
When Ynda opened her eyes, she noticed he was looking straight into them. His smile had disappeared, but his gaze was warm – as was his face. Ynda couldn’t help but grin inwardly when she saw his blush was far stronger than she had imagined. But grinning outwardly, she couldn’t do. She wasn’t exactly sure how to respond to their kiss, mainly because she wasn’t used to kissing other aliens at all – let alone Dengeki. Seeing no other option, she figured she should just act as usual.
“This never happened,” she choked out eventually. To her discontent, she didn’t sound nearly as convincing as she had intended.
Upon hearing this statement, Dengeki was quick to glance down and nod a bit awkwardly. “Right. Never happened,” he agreed. It seemed he was just as determined as her to conserve at least some of his dignity, so Ynda refrained from questioning his nervous attitude.
It didn’t take long after that for Dengeki to set Ynda back on the couch, after which he stood up and looked down at her. “I guess I’ll go back to the others now. They’re probably wondering where I went off to.” He shrugged, appearing like he didn’t care that much either way. “Would you like to join me?”
Ynda shook her head. “No, that’s fine. I’ll stay here to read some more.”
“Alright,” Dengeki answered with a nod. He turned to walk away, but to Ynda’s surprise, he moved back to her only a second later. “Is there anything else you need?” he added quickly.
Ynda couldn’t help but flash a grin when she saw his. She felt relieved that they could both go back to their reckless selves, instead of having to wonder what they should do after such a serious moment. Not that she complained about it.
“Nah, thanks. But I’ll tell ya when I do.” She sent him a quick wink.
He sent one straight back. “’Kay. See you later.”
Ynda watched him as he exited the room, leaving her on her own. As the quiet, peaceful atmosphere returned, she needed a moment to remember this was exactly what she’d demanded from the moment he came in. She realized, however, that she wouldn’t have minded his presence at all at this point, and nearly started to regret she let him leave.
Oh well, I suppose I’ll go see him later, she thought with a shrug. I wouldn’t want him to get any ideas.
It occurred to Ynda that he never did tell her why he’d come to join her in the first place. But it didn’t matter anymore. Whatever he wanted, he seemed to have gotten. And so did she.
And beware of a few curse words. XD;
