I just got this awesome scene in my head today, and I HAD to write it. XD Warning: Blood, violence, swearing... yeah. XD GKND teens 'n' stuff.
---
It was business as usual in the gihoogic Galactic Kids Next Door base. Transport vehicles made their way in and out, bringing in goods and sending out operatives on missions, and every room was alight with activity. It was a perfectly normal day.
But when you’re on a base full of pre-pubescent aliens, just about anything could be defined as ‘normal’.
Today, two sectors had been called to the training arena, for some one-on-one practice combat battles. By pitting aliens from different sectors against each other, it would remove any advantages that they may have against their teammates, having watched them battle at close quarters during missions and such.
The vast stadium was large enough to fit at least eight decent sized swimming pools, and a balcony for the spectators bordered the entire room. For safety purposes, a pane of synthetic, see-through material separated the viewers from the fight below.
Up in this spectator’s area, the members of Sector SUN and Sector STAR were waiting for a battle between two of their members to begin.
“Will Numbuhs 2521 and 1D107 please step up to the starting points,” the mediator of the match called, gesturing for the operatives which were previously stood in the doorway to take up their positions in the arena. Even from up above their heads, they could hear the yells of support coming from their teammates.
“GOOOO ETOILE!!”
“DI-VAD! DI-VAD!”
“KICK HIS BUTT!”
“NO KICK HIS BUTT!”
“I LIKE PUDDING!”
“FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!”
Both of the boys looked rather civil, although determined, considering the circumstances they had experienced related to each other. But like good boys, they were trying their best to leave their disputes out of this match.
“Ready? Set! GO!”
They shot off the ground immediately; Etoile in a speedy blur of red, Divad in a blur of teeth and fur as he changed form, from humanoid to wolfoid. The blurs were at it immediately, although not many blows seemed to be landing during this early part of the match.
Up in the spectator’s zone, Nebulos and Cyril were having fun commentating on the match, as they had done with many a game of Flitzserball.
“…and we can still hardly see what they’re doing, they’re just moving so FAST! Oh! I think Etoile just landed a blow, did you see that Cyril?!”
“I saw it alright! But it looks like Jerk-Face is trying to catch him with his claws from behind! Foul play!”
“Cyril, you’re not meant to be so biased.”
“But his face is stupid!”
Up in the front row, a certain female was watching the blur of red and yellow with great interest, and a hint of pride would flash across her features whenever it managed to strike his beast of an opponent. A small smile played about her lips as she watched, certain he would win this match. But even with the loud commotion from the other aliens around her, Nalo had no trouble as all picking out a particular girl’s voice out from the crowd.
“So did you girls know that Boy Wonder down there is going out with Nalo now?” Apparently Mercedes was certain of her boyfriend’s victory as well, since she was seated a few rows back and paying more attention to her nails than the match. Her equally dim-witted friends were seated either side of her, and their faces lit up like so many chemical explosions at the news she bore.
“Oh, really??”
“You would’ve thought he’d gone for someone prettier.”
“Yeah, maybe that rainbow chick.”
“Isn’t she going out with the wolf guy?”
“Doubt it, I thought the green-haired midget was going out with him.”
“Eugh,” Mercedes groaned, knowing they were talking about Tala. “The wolf guy’s way too good for her. Heck, I’d almost consider him myself.” Her friends both inhaled sharply at this remark, then giggled. From a few rows in front, Nalo’s attention was completely focused on the trio, watching them and listening to their corrosive conversation.
From somewhere in the crowd, Nebulos’s voice suddenly rose above everyone else’s groans and cheers. “Ooh, and it looks like Divad landed a blow! Woah, are those claws sharp or WHAT? Is that blood?!!”
“Man, that looks like it smarts!” came Cyril’s remark on the event.
“Oh yeah, way to be sympathetic.”
“KICK HIS BUUUUUUTT, ETOILE!”
A c0cky snicker rose from the back row.
“Knew he’d be no match for my man,” Mercedes commented, her gaze lifting from her nails to the arena for a moment, causing Nalo to turn away hurriedly. But it didn’t take long for the girls to return to their demeaning conversation.
“I don’t know what he sees in her,” came a voice from behind Nalo. Now she was certain they might be looking at her, she daren’t turn around. “What does she even do?”
“Cleans the bathrooms.” A few snorts of laughter rose, triggering a scowl on Nalo’s face.
“The whole metal thing is really weird.”
“But at least it’s kind of useful and stuff! Have you seen Etoile fight? He’s got these sissy, glowy powers, I heard they come from his heeeaart.”
The scowl became deeper as the girls giggled; her brow furrowed in irritation.
“Of course I’ve seen him fight, I mean he’s right in front of us,” came Mercede’s absentminded voice. Another groan rose from the members of Sector SUN as Etoile let another attack through his defenses.
“What a wuss.”
“Is he even trying?”
“He is such a loser.”
“And what’s up with the hair?”
“Figj’at.”
Nalo’s frown widened at the use of the offensive word.
“Haha, he is so gonna lose!” Her friends made similar jeers in agreement.
“Was he a good kisser?”
Mercedes scoffed. “He was dreadful! Doesn’t know his way around a girl’s mouth at all.”
‘Liar.’
“Why did you date him in the first place, Mercy?”
Nalo’s eyebrow twitched at the irony of the nickname.
“He was nice, he spoiled me, as any guy should to a girl. ‘Chivalry ain’t dead’ might as well be his motto.”
The slow rumblings of a growl began in Nalo’s throat.
“Why would a kid like that dump you?”
‘He didn’t dump her.’
“He doesn’t know what to look for in a girl. I mean, you’ve seen who he’s ended up with.”
A snarl surfaced.
“And you just let him go?”
“Well Divad’s just so much better. Look at him; he’s hot, he beats up annoying girls for me--”
“Didn’t the wolf-boy beat him up?”
“Shut up. Not to mention he gives me more than Etoile ever did.”
Her grey lips were beginning to pull back to bare her teeth in an angered scowl.
“Besides, Divad’s love for me is pure and true, unlike that jerk’s.”
“What?”
‘What?!’
“You didn’t know? He was already cheating on me with that b/tch when we broke up.”
“Really?!”
‘WHAT?!!’ Nalo’s eyes were wide with anger and utter disbelief at such a lie.
“How could he do that to you?!”
“What a jerk!”
“You mean he cheated on you, then left you for… that?!”
‘I have a name, y’know!’
“Yup…” Mercedes didn’t seem to care at all, which wasn’t surprising considering that wasn’t how it happened at all. “He’s a real two-faced twaht under the squishy yellow layer. But hey, he’s bound to get a taste of his own medicine, I don’t think Nalo’s being entirely faithful.”
Her expressed was frozen and even her breathing had stopped as Nalo waited for her to continue.
“Really??”
“Mhm-hm.”
“Well come on then, spill!”
“Oh, but that would ruin the surprise for Etoile if word got out.”
“We won’t tell!”
“Well if you insist. I saw her going into her room with some guy the other day, they were holding hands and ever--”
A shriek of surprise and terror emerged from one of her friends as a large metal fist of a limb suddenly grabbed Mercedes by the throat, cutting off her breathing and consequently her speech. Floating a few feet above one of the chairs, what could only be described as pure fury was seeping from every pore on Nalo’s crawling skin.
Her grip on the girl’s neck tightened as more limbs sprouted from the same arm, wrapping around Mercedes’ chest as well. A few of the spectators were beginning to notice the battle inside their own compartment when Mercedes’ friends suddenly rose to their feet. One of them, Nalo was about to discover, wielded super strength, and they leapt from their chair and towards the angered girl, driving their fist into her gut and sending her flying backwards, straight through the protective panes which shattered as she slammed into them.
However this technique was not a good one, and although Nalo fell from the spectator’s balcony as the girl had intended, she still had a firm grip on Mercedes’ neck, and she was pulled down as well. They only fell for a second or two, but the arena was silent for the few moments before the impact. Even the battling duo had noticed the commotion and hesitated. Nalo crashed into the ground, cracking the floor and creating what could only be described as a miniscule earthquake, felt only by Etoile, whose bare feet could pick up the small vibrations in the ground.
As her body made impact Nalo had lost her grip on Mercedes, who hit the ground with slightly less force and rolled a few times before coming to a stop. The shaken girl had barely pulled herself onto her knees when metallic limbs targeted her again, and she had to jump away hurriedly to avoid them. Apparently the fall hadn’t knocked Nalo out of the fight just yet, and she shot into an upright levitating position as she tried to grab the girl again.
However her focus became distracted when the two friends landed on either side of her. The one yet to attack had a ball of fire in their hands, and Nalo’s eyes widened at the sight of it. They drew back their arm to fire the enlarging ball while the other scampered over to Mercedes to protect her if need be. Weakened from the fall, Nalo failed to fully dodge the fireball, and the moment it made contact with one of her limbs, a sizzle could be heard as the metal melted. A quick twist and flick snapped the injured limb from her body, leaving it to melt on the floor and dissolve into a puddle of black.
Divad, who had changed back into his humanoid form to observe the trouble, suddenly became away of his bruised and battered girlfriend on the other side of the pitch, and he sprinted away from his opponent, yelling something to the girl protecting her about him taking of this. He changed forms again, charging at Nalo and leaping onto her back, his claws slicing her skin open like butter.
Smirking, the pyrokinetic fired up another flaming ball and yelled for Divad to move, pleased with discovering this weakness. Roars and growls of pure anger were tearing from Nalo’s throat as she tried to fend off the pair, but as the fireball destroyed yet another limb, a whimper escaped her between her snarls. Etoile was yelling as well, suddenly darting forwards and grabbing Divad roughly, intent on getting at least one of Nalo’s opponents off her back.
As this violent, unplanned battle took place, the remaining members of the sectors gawped from behind the broken screen. Stood in front of the newly created hole in the panes was Niji and Tala, amongst many others.
“We’ve got to stop them before they get seriously hurt!” Niji exclaimed, staring down with an expression of deep concern.
“Stop them?!” came Tala’s response. “We should be helping them! GO NALO! KICK HER ASS!” Niji sighed and rolled her eyes somewhat before grabbing Tala’s arm and pulling the pair of them through the hole to jump and land down below.
Nalo’s eyes had become no more than slivers of gold in her eyes, her eyes seeming pure white with anger, and what with the pain searing across her body and the incoherent yells from all around, another whimper fell from her lips as she felt certain she was losing this battle. She could hardly even see anymore, she was almost completely blinded by her rage.
Suddenly, a large, multicoloured forcefield surrounded Nalo, sending Divad and Etoile falling back, landing in a painful pile. But as they jumped up again, Etoile signalled to Tala to help her, and between them they separated themselves from the angered members of Sector STAR. Divad was mercilessly beating at Niji’s forcefield, but the princess was doing a good job of keeping Nalo safe.
But the metallic girl wasn’t appreciating it, as now she had been giving a few seconds to recuperate, she was also driving her limbs into the forcefield, her narrowed eyes glaring daggers at Mercedes, who had not received enough of a beating, in her opinion.
It was a while before anyone calmed down, with Divad being the first. He suddenly remembered he had an injured girlfriend, so he rushed over to make sure she was alright. It didn’t take long after that for Nalo to give up trying to escape, her eyes shadowed and downcast, closing off exactly what emotions she was feeling right now, although anyone could make an educated guess.
The mediator of the battle had finally showed up to take control; by the looks of it the fury of the unintentional battle had scared him somewhat.
“Now what is the meaning of this?!”
Mercedes was the first to answer.
“She attacked me out of nowhere!” she cried, pointing accusingly at Nalo, who just lowered her eyebrows in a glare, knowing it wasn’t true.
“Yeah, she just went crazy!”
“Nalo would never do that!” came Tala’s counterargument, backed up by the other members of Sector SUN, who had come down to the arena not long ago, along with the rest of Sector STAR.
“Well she did!”
“This is hardly fair, Nalo can’t even explain what happened,” Niji pointed out, still holding the forcefield strong. But yet again Tala swooped in to make her defence statement.
“I heard those girls talking dirt about Nalo,” she insisted, and it was true, she had caught wind of some of the conversation. “It wouldn’t surprise me if they were talking rubbish about Etoile, too.” Nalo nodded her head rapidly to confirm that it was what had happened. And despite the girls’ displeasure, it was eventually concluded that although fighting was bad, Nalo did have a good reason.
The members of Sector STAR stormed off, intending on taking their injured member to the infirmary, and Etoile suggested that they should do the same for Nalo. Her reaction was to growl and start hitting the forcefield again; Nalo did not like the infirmary.
“Nalo you’re covered in blood and bruises and you left a crater in the ground when you fell!” Tala insisted, although she sounded rather impressed that she had survived such a feat. After much spitting and growling, Nalo eventually didn’t have the energy to protest any longer, and she grudgingly allowed herself to be taken to the sick bay. Niji lowered the forcefield, allowing the twins to carry her, while Etoile scampered alongside them and tried to reassure Nalo. But she was sick and tired, and they hadn’t even arrived in the medical centre yet when she lost consciousness. The last thing she remembered before passing out was a hand on her shoulder, warm and comforting, although sticky with blood.
