Tala has a friendly warning for Nalo, being the good little sister that she is. X3
--
Nalo was familiar with the green-haired little sister of Etoile, but as far as interactions go, hers were limited concerning the girl. What conversations they did have were pleasant, if not sometimes strange, but in Nalo’s subconscious mind she was aware that she really didn’t know much about the girl in question except for the things Etoile mentioned. That, and the fact that the girl could get artistic with a certain condiment. . . but everyone knew that.
So it was a little surprising when said little sister found her in one of the corridors, having apparently been searching for her. Hanging upside-down from the ceiling, she was looking downwards at Nalo, who didn’t feel the need to question her being in such a preposterous stance. The answer would probably not make much sense, anyway.
“Nalo,” Tala greeted, dropping downwards and flipping around so that she could look at the Chiz girl properly. Her voice was one that Nalo wasn’t familiar with, although it had a tone of seriousness that was rarely present in her lilting tones.
Nalo smiled in greeting, although it was slightly warily that she pulled her lips upward. If Tala was being serious, then it had to be something that was beyond the normal code of concern.
“May I speak plainly with you?” Etoile’s sister questioned, smiling with innocence. A little alarm bell went off inside of Nalo’s mind – a serious expression and formal greetings were no doubt bad news. With a bit of hesitancy, Nalo nodded, hoping that the girl hadn’t decided that Nalo had offended her in some various way.
“You, obviously, are well-informed of the whole chaos that came about concerning Etoile, Mercedes, and Divad.” Had the girl swallowed a freakin’ thesaurus? “I can’t help but notice that the whole ordeal caused quite an emotional upheaval inside of my brother. He wasn’t himself for the longest time and I think you and I can both agree that we would not be pleased if this occurred again.”
Why was she bringing this up? Wasn’t it obvious that Nalo wouldn’t want Etoile to have to go through that again?
“Due to the fact that he’s emotionally stable nowadays, I think it’s safe to say that it’s mostly because of you. Especially when taking into consideration his unusual amount of happiness. In short, you make my brother extremely happy.”
Also obvious. What was the girl’s point?
“But being related to him by blood, I can’t help but feel a large amount of concern for him, especially given his past. Although it may seem otherwise at times, I care for him very much.”
Now Nalo was wondering if Tala just wanted to give a dramatic monologue for the sheer fun of it.
“In conclusion. . .” Tala suddenly smirked dangerously, dropping her ridiculous, proper façade. “If you break his heart, Nalo, I’ll break your FACE.”
Nalo blinked at her, obviously taken back by her words. It was evident that she hadn’t expected that last sentence with the startled expression that reigned over her features.
And then she laughed. Silently, expressively, she laughed, almost doubling over while the bubbling motion shook her frame.
After a few seconds, she fished out a notebook and a pen and scrawled a quick message for the girl, and Tala squinted at the paper before settling into a pleased smile while she re-read the words. “Your older brother is adorable, Tala, and I don’t plan on hurting him. I think I’d break my own face before I broke his heart.”
“Do you solemnly swear, by pains of death?” Tala questioned, lifting two eyebrows at her in mock seriousness.
Nalo grinned and nodded, scribbling another light message for her. “Promise.”
A smile overtook the yellow face, but it was suddenly as though another thought had struck her, and suddenly she stuck out her hand, her pinky finger lifted into the air. “Pinky promise!”
A second passed as Nalo blinked at the pinky, as if she was expecting anything but that. One eyebrow lifted at Tala and she showed the girl her fingerless hands.
Orange eyes rolled lightly in their sockets. “Fine, fine. Pinky-and-tendril promise.”
Smiling amusedly, Nalo wrapped a tiny limb around the girl’s thin pinky, and Tala shook it vigorously. It seemed as though a serious pact had just taken place, and Nalo was sure that this was as good as an oath in the young Telarian’s mind.
The girl seemed pleased, lifting higher into the air. “Good. I like you lots better than that stupid Mercedes anyway. You’re just awesome. I figured it wouldn’t be a problem. Wanna go get some ice cream?”
As erratic as usual, but it made Nalo smile. She nodded and the two, suddenly a little more bonded than they had been before, headed off for the cafeteria. Their conversation would remain a secret, for their memories alone, but they preferred it that way, anyway.
