Summary: Neon has a nightmare, so he goes to the one person who could comfort him the best. Nali/Neon
He ran as fast as his little legs could possibly carry him but still Neon could not get away from someone or something chasing him throughout a dark forest. He was so tired but he did not dare stop, he could hear the monster growling ferociously behind him. His magenta eyes frantically searched for his colorful older sister but she was no where to be found, he realized that was all alone. Neon reached a dead end, there was nowhere left for him to go, he turned around to try to go in a different direction but was blocked by the scariest thing his eyes had ever seen. It was big, and slimy, with dozens of sharp teeth inside of its open mouth. Just when the terrified boy opened his mouth to let out a scream, a long tentacle rushed forward--
Neon sat up in his bed with a start, clutching his blankets and pulling them up to his chin. He listened to the wind howl outside his bedroom window, and gulped audibly. It appeared that a storm was approaching. Great just what he needed. He looked around at the many action figures and toys lying about his room, the moonlight casting shadows around causing everything around him to appear scarier than they actually supposed to be. Suddenly aloud clap of thunder and lightning startled the little boy so badly that he tumbled out of bed taking the blanket to the ground with him. He whimpered rubbing his bottom painfully. “Owww…” He pulled himself off the ground and exited his room unable to take being alone anymore.
As his eyes scanned every inch of the dark corridors for any signs of a monster, He dragged his bare feet across the metallic floors of the GKND headquarters turning corner after corner until he found the bedroom door of the person who understood him the most. He finally came across the door with the bubbled lettered name of his sister painted across her door in dark blue glittering letters. He stood on his tippy toes to press the button that unlocked the door, the moment he did, a computerized voice came through the tiny speaker underneath the button,
Identify yourself, please.
The black haired half human cleared his throat, “I-It’s Neon…” He only had to wait a second before a rainbow beam scanned his body and the doors whooshed open,
Identification confirmed. Access granted…
Neon entered the room quietly, making his way to the bed in which his sister slept peacefully. He knew that he shouldn’t wake her up, as she usually came back tired from missions and she needed her rest. He bit his lower lip clearly torn. Maybe he should just go back to bed and try to get to sleep? Another rumble of thunder from outside startled the five year old into making a decision, he jumped into the soft bed and pull the covers over his head, shaking uncontrollably. At the sudden disturbance, Nali’s hazel eyes flew open and she sat up,
“Wh-who’s there?” She asked groggily. She felt her bed shaking beneath her and turned to her side to see a lump underneath her colorful blanket. Raising an eyebrow, the sleepy girl lifted the blanket off of the trembling bundle to reveal her brother, in the fetal position, his eyes clenched tightly shut.
“N-neon?” She asked, surprised. “What’s the matter?” She brushed some of his wavy black hair out of his eyes to see fresh tears welling up in them. Her eyes widened with concern, “Neon, what’s wrong?” She lifted his chin a bit to get a better look at his face. The five year old wiped his eyes with his sleeve and looked away, feeling uncomfortable.
“…I-I had a bad dream…” He whispered and looked down at his feet, embarrassed at what he just said. Nali exhaled deeply and held her arms out to him,
“Come here…” She urged him, tiredly. Hesitantly, Neon shifted over so that he sat on his sister’s lap. He felt her chin rest against on top of his head, and heard her begun to hum a little soft song. Gradually, Neon began to relax, his eyes begun to feel heavy, and just as the prospect of sleep began to overpower the small boy, a flash of lightning lit up everything from the outside as the sound of rain started to pelt Nali’s nearest bedroom window. Frightened again, Neon turned to his sister and buried his face in her night gown, whimpering.
Nali patted his back comfortingly. “It’s alright Neon; it’s just a storm...” She ran her fingers through his mop of thick wavy hair. She felt him clenched her shirt tighter,
“I-It’s scary…” He whined, letting tears slip from his magenta eyes. “Just like in my dream.” He sniffed. Nali hugged him tighter.
“Do you want to tell me what happened in your dream?” She asked pulling away from him, “It may make you feel better.” She gave him a small smile. Neon nodded,
“W-well, in my dream…Th-this m-monster was ch-chasin’ me, right?” He began, Nali nodded, waiting for him to continue. “A-and, I tried and I tried, b-but I couldn’t get away! A-and th-then I looked for you, and you weren’t there…” He shook his head. “Y-you weren’t there to make him go a-away…” With that, he broke down in sobs. “I-it was scaaaary.”
Nali felt her heart melt into a huge puddle as she tried to comfort her baby brother. She didn’t like it when he got this upset, and it usually took awhile for him to calm down. “Aw, I’m sorry you had a nightmare Neon.” The half Orgamian, half Human Princess said softly, “But no matter what happens in bad dreams, you just have to remember that they’re not real.” Her voice was soft and reassuring, “Just like this storm, dreams can’t hurt you.”
Neon lifted his head from his sister’s lap. “R-really?” He asked hopefully. Nali nodded. “B-but if my dream was real, y-you’d make sure the monsters wouldn’t eat me, right?”
Nali laughed. “Right, I’d make all those gross monsters eat rainbows before they could even think about eating you! Besides, I don’t think you taste very good anyway.” She tickled his stomach, causing the kid to giggle.
He looked up at his colorful sister, “N-nali? C-can I sleep in here with you tonight?”
Nali smiled at him, and pulled the blanket back, “Sure, just try not to kick me off the bed this time.” She ruffled his hair, as laid his head back on one of the soft pillows beside her. She pressed a peck to the side of his head, “Now go to sleep.” She said softly, “And no more bad dreams…”
As closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, he would wake up in the morning to realize that he was no longer afraid of monsters, thunderstorms, and darkness; so long as his big sister Nali was there to chase it all away.
