...yeah, well, I had this idea in the back of my head for awhile and I wanted to type it up and post it, but loads of things got in my way. And it’s been….almost a month???!!!

Sometimes I'm very easily distracted. >->
I did managed to mention this to Yuki and she liked it, so now I'm definitely doing it. WOOO!

In the GKND/GTND base there were many rooms used for the operatives. More often than not, some had actually had the pleasure to explore each and every one of them, but it was hard to tell since some rooms were added on each year or so. At any rate, some operatives avoided a few of the rooms based on their own intentions and for other reasons, others threw caution to the wind and went to any room they pleased.
Zoelin was one of the few who tried to steer clear of one of the rooms.
So, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary if one asked what in the heck she was doing in the room she managed to steer clear of--save that one incident a couple of weeks back. They might've asked, but the reason would seem a bit silly to some of them. It didn't seem very silly to her, though. As she stared at the crystalline blue water, determination hidden by the usual side-swept yellow fringe in her eyes, Zoelin had one task today and one task only:
Learn to swim.
Since she had came to the GKND, she had made certain that she'd steer clear of the pool room, making up some random excuse or at least pull out the shiny-of-the-day she carried around in her pocket and throw it in a random direction, saying she had to go get it. Anything and everything tha dealt with the pool room, she took herself out of the equation. As mentioned before, though, she did come to the pool room once, purely on accident and mixed intentions. If she had known their plan on making her swim before-hand, Zoelin might've saved herself from the embarassment that came later on. Which consisted of her falling prey to a glowing tail and leaping into the water, unable to even do a simple stroke.
However, she felt more determined today. Maybe it was because of the fact that she was actually facing her fears, or it could be that she was actually beginning her lessons. Or, it might've been because she had her favorite, and what she considered 'lucky', shiny ball inside her pants's pocket.
Whatever the case may have been, it gave her the gumption to do this, and all that was separating her from accomplishing the goal today was herself..the water...and her "teachers."
A silvery grin grew itself onto her face as she stared at the water. "You don't scare me." She pointed a scarlet finger at the water as if would make it cower in return. The water only shimmered a few times and waved. What a comeback.
"Who are you talking to?"
"The water, who else?" She turned around, seeing a taller teen boy stand in front of a closing door, with a raised green eyebrow directed towards her.
"I see..." Dengeki gave a low chuckle.
"Exactly." She smiled, before crossing her arms and looking past him only to see the door. "Wait, where's Unagi?" She asked, referring to his twin.
"Ah, about that..." He walked past her, towards the edge of the pool. "Something about writing his vows or something. Nothing important," he added with the wave of his hand. Zoelin followed suit, stopping before the edge of the pool as well.
"So...nothing's important?"
"What do you mean?"
"You said it yourself, "nothing" was important. That's not very nice..."
"No, that's not what I meant. It's nothing."
"So it isn't important?" Dengeki didn't respond as he was now giving her a confused expression as she kept her smile. "It's a joke.."
"Ah." Silence came among the two, save for the few small splashes the water made and the swishes coming from Zoelin’s tails. “Well, are you ready? Jump in.”
“Now?”
“Well, how else do you expect to learn?”
“By watching you.” She answered simply, which only gained a purple tooth grin and a chuckle in return. “What? It’s better to watch than experience it. And besides, wouldn’t this be a repeat of last time?”
“Excuse me? But if I recall, you jumped in.”
“Yeah, after you lured me into it.”
“Which brings us back to today. Now, go on and get your swim clothes on and let’s do this.” Zoelin gave a shrug in return, and walked away towards the changing rooms, only come back wearing something that did not look like the sort of thing one would wear when swimming for the first. Sure, she was wearing her tank top and shorts, but there was also the fact that she had a large, oddly-shaped duck around her waist, a snorkel set on her face and fins duct-taped to her feet.
Dengeki couldn’t help but laugh.
“What? Something on my face?”
“That…and what ever else is on your body,” he breathed in between giggles. When the whiskite gave him a confused eyebrow-raise, he just shook his head. “Take it off, all of it. You won’t be needing that.”
“I still need my clothes, you know.” She reminded him, causing a faint blue tint rise to his cheeks.
“Well, if you insist…”
“I don’t.” Zoelin responded quickly, pulling the fins off of her feet as well as the rubber-duck. When all was taken off, save her swim-outfit, she stared at him again.
“What is it this time?”
“I’m not getting in unless you get in.” She told him, folding her arms with a grin still plastered on her face. Again, he raised an eyebrow, but had shrugged and in an instant he had taken off his shirt, and pants, revealing his swim-trunks.
“You wear your swim trunks all the time?”
Dengeki beamed. “You never know when it’ll come in handy. Like today.” Zoelin watched as he removed the purple cuffs and jumped into the water, slightly amazed at how quickly he had gotten from one end of the pool to the middle, where the deep end resided.
“Wow….” She crept closer to the edge, leaning over a bit to see her own reflection in the water. In it’s own way, the water taunted her, asking her to come in and drown. But at the same time, it didn’t even look that deep at all, and was rather peaceful.
“What are you waiting for?” He called out to her, making her look up. She shifted a little in place as she crouched down.
“I’m getting my bearings. Don’t rush me, the pupil has to recognize with what she’s working with!”
“Whatever you say.” He replied, and waded in his own little spot . Zoelin eyed him again from her sitting position. He made it look so easy, being free in the water like that, without a care or anything. Maybe once when the lessons were over with, she might be able to do the same thing--minus the thrashing and screaming about. Determined, she turned around and lowered one foot into the water….
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!”
…Only to jerk it back upward, obviously taken by surprise by the temperature of the water. She hugged her legs to her body, as she stared at the water, shivering at the same time. Zoelin noticed Dengeki wading his way closer to the edge, a smirk already on his features. “What is it this time?”
“The water’s too cold.”
“The water’s fine.”
“You sure about that?”
“As sure as I am green.” The whiskite only raised an eyebrow at his assurance, noting that he technically wasn’t purely green.
“Hmm…I don’t think so.” She watched him draw even nearer, now resting his hands on the linoleum edge as he studied her through his own teal green bangs. Her eyebrows furrowed together for a brief moment until an idea had made itself form in her head, and reveal it’s intentions through the silvery grin she gave the boy. He only gave a raised eyebrow in response.
“Wha--” He didn’t exactly have time to react, for at one minute, Zoelin was sitting in a perfect upright fetal position in front of him on the ground, and then in the next, she had appeared on him--arms around his neck with legs clings onto him for dear life. He had almost lost his balance but he had one hand still on the wall, keeping him stable. By the way Zoelin had clung herself onto him, she almost resembled a koala…or a leech.
Koala might’ve been the better term, since within seconds of leaping onto him, Zoelin had curled her tails around him as well, linking the two when they made contact behind his back.
“Geez, Zo. I didn’t know you liked me this much.”
“Call it a magnetic attraction if you will, just don’t drop me.” Zoelin responded, her eyes more directed towards the water’s surface than anything else. Her eyes never left the water, save for the few minutes when Dengeki had turned around and was walking away from the edge, it’s sanctuary was getting farther and farther away from her. Inwardly, Zoelin had that sinking feeling, but somehow it was quite the opposite on the outside.
At least, for the first few minutes.
When the water level began to climb its way up, signifying that they were going towards the deep end, Zoelin tightened her grip a bit on Dengeki.
“You don’t have to hold on so tight.” She turned briefly to look at him for a moment, noting that his cheeks were slightly….blue? A grin grew on her features, despite the situation as she replied cooly.
“But I thought you liked me on you.”
A grin soon grew on the boy’s features as he replied in the same tone: “Leave the flirts to the master.”
“Oh sure, sure. But aren’t you being the life-guard today?”
“I have many talents.” Dengeki said simply with a wink, causing Zoelin to raise an eyebrow. She might’ve said something else, but it was at that moment that she felt the water now surrounding her middle, more specifically, it was way past her belly-button. A low squeak erupted from the back of her throat as she tightened her grip on the fish-boy. It might’ve been the water itself, or possibly her in-grown fear of deep-bodies of water, but the poor Whiskite was definitely shivering.
“O-o-okay, that’s far enough.”
“Aaaw, but we’re only getting started.” He glanced over, seeing that the girl wasn’t grinning anymore and had probably had her eyes closed. Curious, he shifted his hands a bit and lifted her bangs, and found his suspicions correct.
“What are you doing?” She asked, not opening her eyes at all.
“Trying to see your face.”
“But you see it all the time.”
“Not all of it.”
“So?”
“So show me, or I’ll drop you into the water, right now and you’ll have to swim on your own.” Zoelin stiffened a little, her eyebrows creasing themselves into a frown.
“You wouldn’t dare…..”
“Would I?” She crinkled her nose a bit at the thought. He might’ve been bluffing, but then again, he might not be. She’d get embarrassed either way: by her eyes, or by thrashing about in the water, not even attempting to make a single stroke. A small “huff” came from her mouth as she turned her face towards him, eyes still closed.
“Well?”
“My answer is:….No.” She stuck a white tounge out at him, and like she had predicted, he let go.
SPLAAASSSSSSH!!!![/I]
“Aaaaaaaaaah!!!” She quickly splashed her arms about, now coming into full contact with the cold water. As she kept using every limb of her body, tails, arms and legs, she contemplated on whether or not if opening her eyes was really worth it.
That is…until she felt the floor of the pool.
“Hey, wait a minute!” She frowned again, now managing to stand up and still have her head above the water-level. In fact, the water only went around her shoulders. “….You tricked me.” Dengeki only laughed for a bit before responding.
“Actually, I didn’t say where you were going to be dropped. And besides, you probably would’ve figured that out if you would open your eyes….speaking of which.” He pointed at her face, to which Zoelin gave a confused shrug. She crossed her eyes, seeing nothing there, until she noticed that her bangs had been pushed back from her little “swim”. Her eyes widened as he went on.
“Huh. I didn’t know you blushed orange.” Dengeki said, now leaning his face closer to investigate.
“I do…I just don’t do it often.”
“Well you should. It looks pretty cute on you.” She turned away, now folding her arms. Even though she didn’t exactly like this little “trick” she couldn’t keep the smile growing on her face. “Now, the question is: How deep can the blush get?” Zoelin snapped her head back towards him, ready to ask what he was planning to do, when she found his face just barely inches away from her own.
Silence came upon the two again, as she was staring right directly into his face as he with her own. Zoelin really didn’t know what she had planned to say, but whatever it was it had gone out the window as well as her dignity. Finally, though, she managed to say something.
“Okay…if I’m showing my eyes, you have to show yours.” Maybe that was what she had planned to say, maybe not, but at least for the moment it filled in the silence.
“…sure.” With a quick whip of his head, the green bangs moved off to the side, now revealing his blue ones. “There, I can see you better now.”
“Like you couldn’t before?” Zoelin asked.
“I could, but at least this way I could see the beauty of your eyes better.” Zoelin crinkled her nose again, shifting a little bit away from him.
“Hmm, you’ve got some nerve. I hate them.”
“No..you shouldn’t.”
“And why should I?” She glanced back at him, now giving an “I-don’t-buy-it-look”. She watched Dengeki as he was still staring at her, though now his expression looked a bit thoughtful, something she didn’t really associate with him at all.
"I think your eyes are pretty." He said simply, giving a shrug as well. She lowered her arms a bit, now letting the go into the water as she played with the waves. She never let her gaze falter from him though.
“You think so?”
“Mmhmm.”
“And why is that, exactly?”
“Well…” he paused a bit, moving over closer towards her to fill in the previous gap between them. “They make you look more….expressive.”
“Expressive?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
“It’s a compliment in some cultures.” At that, Zoelin couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, now feeling not so doubtful anymore. “And it should be one in this case as well.”
Just as she was about to respond, they heard a yell come from behind them, towards the doors that led into the room.
“OI! WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME THIS WAS A PRIVATE SWIMMING LESSON!” Both heads whipped around to see twin number two, Unagi, standing at the door, looking to be giving a very wide purple grin.
Since their attention was diverted, Zoelin took this chance to pat her bangs down, before commenting quietly, “ I thought you said he was busy…”
Dengeki replied just as quietly, “ Well, I didn’t exactly say for how long, now did I?”
