Masquerade?

Gah I had this idea for a fanfic. Uh, I'll write more about it later. '^^

Kenny and Kairi belong to Rika (Wally's Chika)
Akito and Connor belong to me!

Chapter One, Part One.

It was that time of the again. Halloween was just around the corner and West Mountain High School was having their annual formal dance. This year’s theme was masquerade.

Kairi Seville looked at the clock and sighed. Her world history class couldn’t be over soon enough. She brushed her long pink hair behind her ear and began to take more notes. But when she looked up again, there was a very handsome boy blocking her view.

“Kenny, you really shouldn’t be up during class. You know how strict Mrs. Wilson is.”

The boy looked at her and pouted cutely. “But I just wanted to see you.”

Kairi sighed again. “Kenny, you can see me fine from over there,” She smiled, “Besides, after this class is lunch and you’ll have a whole hour to be with me.” She gently pushed Kenny back towards his desk and resumed with her notes. Then she felt a poke on her back.

“Kenny, I told you to go back to your desk.”

Kairi turned around but instead of seeing her dark haired boyfriend, she saw a blonde skater boy frowning at her.

“Oh, so now I’m Kenny?” He said mockingly. “I see how it is” He folded his arms in a huff.

“Sorry Connor,” She replied. “I just thought you were Kenny because he was bothering me earlier.”

Connor smiled. “You know I was just kidding. But I was kinda wondering what you got for problem #12.” He smiled sheepishly.

“This isn’t math class.”

“Your point?”

“My point is, the reason why its called homework is because you do it AT HOME.”

“Thank you Mother Teresa. Now if you could just give me that answer-“

“I said no.”

“But no means yes in girl language.”

The bell rang. Kairi closed her book and stood up. Connor walked past her and looked back.

“By the way,” he smiled, “Akito’s coming back.”
“Huh?”

But Connor just smiled and walked away.

Wait, She thought, If Akito’s back, then-

She felt someone’s arms come around her in a hug.

“Akito?” She muttered, half expecting it to be him.

“I prefer to be called Kenny.” Kenny smiled and kissed her on the top of her head. They started to walk.

“So Akito’s coming back here? Like to the school?”

“Hai. Well, at least that’s what I think Connor meant”

“Hasn’t he been gone for about three years?”

“Hai.”

It was true. After Kairi’s Aunt Yuki, Akito’s mom, died, Akito and his father had left the city to travel around the world. They didn’t even come back to celebrate each others 18th birthdays.

Ooh!! This sounds like a neato fanfic idea! ^^ I thought you were working on a fanart pic of them but this idea is mega cool! FIRST HALLOWEEN FIC I'VE READ THIS YEAR!!! =D Wow, I didn't know they had moved away. Aww...=( But he's coming back!! Interesting!! What shall happen next? Only you know! Update soon!! ^^

And so a few more hours passed and school was out. Kairi opened her locker to put her books away, when she saw Connor.

“Hey Connor!” She yelled, trying to get his attention. He looked at her and walked towards her.

“Hmm?”

“What did you mean when you said that Akito was coming back?”

“Uhh that he was coming back?”

“But is he actually coming to the school? Or is he just visiting?”

“I’m not supposed to tell. He wanted me to keep it a secret” Connor winked and smiled “Don’t worry about it.” He walked out the school doors to get to his car. Kairi sighed and closed her locker. When she turned to leave, she was wrapped in a warm embrace. She looked up.

“Kenny,”

She gasped. For the boy she was looking up at was indeed not Kenny, but a boy whose hair was so black that it looked blue and deep blue eyes. He smiled.

“Yes love?”

Kairi blinked and rubbed her eyes. When she opened them again, the blue-eyed boy was gone and in his place was the hazel-eyed boy she knew so well.

“For a second, I thought you were-“ She started. “…Never mind” She took his hand and they walked outside. Well that was weird. She thought. Maybe I’m getting a little too worked up about this whole Akito thing. She smiled and looked up at Kenny, glad to be with him.
“Uh, Kenny? I think I’m going to walk home today. I have to stop by the tree house.”

“Want me to walk you there?” He responded with a warm smile.

“No, it’s okay. Besides, how will you get to school if you leave your car there over night?” She laughed a little.

Kenny laughed too. “Yeah. Just be safe, okay?” He kissed her sweetly on the lips and then on the forehead. Then he wrapped her in another warm embrace.

“I’ll call you later, okay?”

Kairi smiled. “Yeah” She started to walk home.
There was only one person who lived in the tree house. After Simon and Akito left, Connor had nowhere else to live. So he had to reside in the one place where he could live without having to pay. Kairi knew this, although she didn’t expect the warm cup of tea waiting for her in the kitchen of the treehouse. She also didn’t expect the treehouse to be so immaculate. Connor never seemed like the person to do housework.

“How did you know I was coming?” She asked Connor, shyly.

“ I can read your mind.” Connor replied. He then made weird hand gestures and waved his arms around. He smiled. “ I overheard you talking to Kenny.” He sipped his tea. “So what brings you here?”

“I just wanted to get some of my old stuff, you know?”

Connor smiled again. “I left Akito’s door unlocked. And he kept all of his old stuff on the second shelf in the closet. And while your up there, can you feed Momiji?”

Kairi blushed and muttered “Arigato” before setting down her cup and going up to Akito’s room.

Unlike the rest of the tree house, Akito’s old room was a mess. There were clothes thrown everywhere and drawers were opened. It looked as if a tornado had swept through the room. No, it looked as if someone wanted to leave in a hurry. She stepped through the door tentatively, a facedown picture crunched under her foot. She picked it up.

The picture had obviously been from a long time ago. There were two five-year-old kids. A blue-haired boy and a pink-haired girl. They were smiling and looked as if they were having a ton of fun. The boy held a small pink stuffed bunny and the girl had an orange tabby kitten. Kairi held back tears as she realized that this picture had been left behind. It was unwanted. It was worthless. She set it down on a nearby dresser and walked over to the closet.

The box on the second shelf wasn’t hard to reach. But it was heavy. Once Kairi had a grip on it, she pulled. And it landed on the ground with a loud THUNK. She sat down next to it and took the lid off of the box.

The first thing she saw, was the pink bunny.
