GKND: A Friend
~**
It was only hours after her last mission with her sector. The kitty-alien licked a paw, patting it down onto her bandaged tail. Ruby hissed to herself for a moment, crossing her arms above her legs.
Her tail was damaged from the mission, and if she asked nicely instead of going ape on Ynda, she could have had it healed completely. Yet, it was now the hard way. Ruby needed to wait patiently. Yet the bandages no good; no flicks, no swishes… nothing was acceptable for her poor tail.
She blew the bangs of hair out of her eyes, peering out the window. Her icy-blue eyes slit, remembering memories.
“Insane!”
“Crazy!”
“Nuts!”
“She’s gonna claw our eyes out if we’re not careful, HA!”
The feline shook her head, feeling the tip of her fur prick with guilt. Ruby flipped to the side, patting her tail softly with her paws. “Not my fault.” She muttered to herself. “If those teenagers didn’t cause this mess in the first place I wouldn’t go all ‘insane’ on them…”
She sighed, closing her eyes. “Shouldn’t have been ticky towards the healer, either… pfft. Squirts healing? Dream on.”
If she makes friends, she would scratch’em out and uses them as some cat toy!
Friends? What friends? You’re too messed up in the head to have FRIENDS!
Ruby flipped again, suddenly hearing nearby footsteps. She tossed around, opening one eye. Rachel McKenzie, AKA Numbuh 362 was coming down the hall.
“Ruby?” her voice asked, gentle. Ruby scowled. Rachel held up her hands in defense.
“Hey… t-take it easy now.” stammered Rachel. “I’m just here to see what the matter is.”
“Nothing.” The pink-kitty hissed. She flipped away, trying to flick her tail but no luck. Pain escaped, and the girl moaned in pain. Rachel was by her side immediately, her hand supporting Ruby’s shoulder.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
Ruby sneered, clawing at her. “Yes, I’m fine!” she raged. The blonde girl was taken aback in fear.
“…Ruby, what’s the matter?” Rachel asked, softer this time. She noticed the tail. “Your tail…oh my… I heard what happened. I’m sorry about that—”
“I don’t need pity from anyone!” Ruby screamed. Her paws began to poke out her claws, warning for Rachel to stay away. But Rachel stood her ground. “Especially from you—Nigelkins stealer!”
Rachel’s cheeks flushed red. “R-Ruby… please understand that I never stole him.” Ruby hissed again, growling.
“Wanna bet?”
The blonde bowed her head. “He asked me out on a date… a real one. It doesn’t mean that I stole him.” said Rachel, lifting her eyes to the pink alien. “H-he and I may be getting closer after the whole… ‘Edward attacks galactic dinner party’ incident, but I can assure you that it’s Nigel’s choice to choose who he truly wants to be with.” She pressed her hand to her heart.
“Perhaps he would like to be with you one day.” Rachel smiled at her.
Ruby narrowed her eyes. “Fat chance.” She snarled.
Sighing in defeat, Rachel walked over. “It’s only a thought. But now…I...” Her thoughts have wondered off, worrying about Ruby.
The two were rivals for Nigel’s affection, and they both knew it. Rachel was even in heartache every time that she saw Nigel with Lizzie back on Earth, and didn’t deny she was totally crushing on him.
Yet, Ruby always followed him around whenever the chance she got when he found him alone or with Rachel. She was much worse than Lizzie. Sure, she had much more of a temper and could thrash anyone—but Lizzie didn’t stalk Nigel by watching him sleep at night. Ruby’s eyes were like a hungry cat, always watching and waiting for him. For Nigel.
She’s lonely… she’s desperate for a friend. Rachel thought to herself, looking worriedly at Ruby.
The pink feline kept on glaring at her. “… What’re you looking at?” she growled. Rachel bent down, taking a good look at the tail. She took it into her hands, trying to figure out how to heal it quicker.
Then without any luck at all, Rachel sighed. “If you weren’t so sassy and stuck-up towards Ynda, she would have healed your tail in a synch.” replied Rachel.
“So.” Ruby said simply, sticking her nose into the air. Rachel shook her head.
“See what I mean?”
“No, I only see the stars…” Ruby shot back.
Silence for a moment.
“…Ruby.”
“What?!” the kitty screeched, nearly ready to tear out the blonde girl’s throat.
“Why are you always with Nigel?” Rachel popped the question. She scoffed.
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m head over paws in love with him, duh.” Sharp. Snotty remark, wasn’t it?
“I… I don’t believe that. Not this time.” Rachel said. Ruby’s eyes widened, turning her head to her.
“What!”
Rachel shook her head. “I cannot believe that right now, Ruby. You’re only wanting Nigel as a friend, because… well, he does accept you. As a friend. You’re lonely.”
The kitty stoke out her tongue, razzing her. “Am not.” She stated. “Besides, weren’t you the lonely one on your precious moon base a few months back, hmm?”
Rachel nodded. “I…I was, I don’t deny the fact.”
“So selfish and so stubborn.”
“I changed for good.” Rachel said out-loud. “People can change, Ruby. For better or worse.”
“To me you’re worse.” Ruby giggled.
“… That isn’t very nice.”
“Your personality? Kindness? Understanding? Ugh, I loathe it!”
“You should definitely try it sometime; it could do you some good. Trust me on this one.” Rachel smiled widely. “Nigel forgave me for after what I’ve done, and I promised him that I would stick by his side no matter what.”
Ruby rolled her eyes, folding her arms. “Typical.”
“At least I’ve officially become a better person than who I was before.” said Rachel. Ruby raised an eyebrow, continuing to ignore her. In yet, she was in thought of it.
“You need a friend.” said the blonde, finally having the courage to take Ruby’s paw into her hand. “What do you say?”
“… I’ll scratch your eye out, kid.”
Rachel’s expression turned blank. Ruby sighed, facing away from her.
“…Ruby. Please don’t say that about yourself.”
The alien girl chuckled. “Looks like Numbuh One has been rubbing off on you quite a lot lately. Not surprised.” She said. Rachel blushed, smiling to herself. Nigel really knew how to charm a girl.
“All I’m saying is—don’t care what the others think. You’re a fighter; you’re a great fighter towards every adult in the universe!” Rachel said with confidence. “Even if at times you’re…uh… off the leash, you’ve still got those adults down on the ground! Nothing that I could have done back on Earth, that’s for sure.”
“Oh, stop.” Ruby flicked a paw to Rachel’s face, having the fur tickle the human’s flesh. Rachel giggled.
“But just remember. I’m a friend.” Rachel said. She then stood up, and then smiled down at the girl. “I’ll see you later, Ruby… and take care of the tail on the next mission, okay?” she joked.
The blonde girl walked off, leaving Ruby alone by herself.
A friend… Ruby thought.
Looking up at the stars again, Ruby wondered if she had finally made a friend.
But she never noticed that the muscle in her tail was flicking with delight over the last bit of the conversation...
The End.

I don't know, I just thought up of this little idea for a oneshot and poof! There you go.
A girl with a kind heart befriending a sassy, pushy feline? Yeah. I can see it.
If Cynder and Ember, the love-interests of Spyro can become friends, why not Rachel and Ruby, the love-interests of Nigel in the GKND universe too?
