From within the fanfic section of writing, there exist two kinds of writers. Writers who stick closely to the rules established with a certain world and the characters and devices that inhabit it, the other are people who abide to the laws of that universe, but also create things as they go along.
KND is a perfect example of a show in which fanfic writers have taken liberties with the material presented to them, for while a lot was established within the KND universe, there is still alot that can and could have been done, particualrily in the side characters department. That said, the question is this.
What are your interpretations of certain characters not really developed within the show itself?
The biggest example I can provide is Patton, who I've really molded into a strong character throughout many of my fics. I mean, we knew that he was brave and that he was a loyal and determined operative, but we didn't really know much else outside of that. So I took that and molded him into a character that I think many would like. He's strong and brave, yet very compassionate and sweet underneath. he's devious yet at the same time noble, and will do whatever it takes to help a fellow person in need. He is impulsive and irresponsible, but always gets his job done.
Another I'd like to discuss is Grandfather. Now to be honest, I didn't really change much about his character. However, I sort of came up with two interesting ideas to add to his character. One is that he enjoys toying with people's emotions for his own sick amusement, and the other is that he is generally seen as psychotic, not caring who he tramples over as long as he meets his goals.
What are your interpretations of certain characters in KND?

Well, I know that the question asks : What are your interpretations of certain characters not really developed within the show itself?....
But I have one that is the main character, Hoagie. I've always had thoughts as to why he's such a big flirt, and the reason as to what happened to his dad....and that it sometimes angers him when he thinks about it. I think, that the reason why he flirts, (besides the obvious reasons), is that maybe he's trying to find the one girl he can keep flirting with and have anactual constant conversation with as well...so he dosen't desert the girl (like his dad did with his mom)....and so far, that's been Abby ^^
And while we're talking about said Spy-Operative, I've been thinking on her character as well. I've noticed throughout the series that she's more grown-up than she is (even thought part of it is due to her seniority over the others) and I've wondered why. I disagreeumption (haha, rule of "assume"), is that she "grew-up" a little quicker than the others was because her sister would pound in the truths of the real world into her brain everyday...that, and she feels that if she's allowed to act silly for even just one day...that the people she loves (including Cree) will get hurt.
Eh....I dunno, that's it. Those were my favorite two out of the show^^.
I like idea about Grandfather, he really does seem that way. Esspecially in regards to his own grandson and son, Benny.

Wow, that's a pretty intersting interpretation of Hoagie you've got going on there Paula. I'm not really sure where I stand on the whole "what ever happeneed to Hoagie Sr." question, but that's really intersting that you believe his father to be tehr eason for Hoagie being a "ladies man".
Abby's is rather intersting as well, and does make quite a bit of sense. Having an older sibling who's been out in the real world would do that to a younger sibling, because they would learn from their aiblings said experience. You know, it actually does make me wonder if Cree being in the KND had any affect on her as opposed to just joining it. I've actually been thinking that maybe the whole reason Abby stayed with the KND after her sister's betrayal is the very reason she joined, her sister's reputation. But what starts out as a selfish reason slowly turns into a selfless one as she comes to love teh people she works with, and teh kids she is sworn to protect from evil.
Thanks about Gf, it's really sort of a vibre I get from him. In my mind, he's truly psychotic, but in a sane way.

Yes, an evil man who loves tapicoa is a pyschotic one indeed ^^ ...although I like tapicoa too (I used to think it was vanilla when I was little ^^ Hoagie's little relationship with his dad kinda resembles my own with my own dad to be honest; he never really was around at all (my parents were never married, and my mom had sole custody...plus he tried to skip around on child support) and the thought sort of occured to me. Plus, it goes along with the old saying "a chip off the old block" As for Abby's reason, that really does make sense. Sometimes it's happened to me with my older cousins (and my mom sometimes as well, although she's more nice about the truth)... Now....for the Tolinator *muah ha ha* I think that he's always had the wrong side of luck since he was a little kid; he was always the odd one out, which made no one really like him. I think, that he really wanted to find some place where he could fit in, and every occupation he went for turned him down. Finally, when he came upon the evil adults, he figured that this was his chance to also strike revenge against the kids who singled him out.. (although, the originals were already grown up, so he made do with their own kids)...and I guess, that since he didn't catch onto the Adult's sarcasm of him joining, he kept popping up with his 2-ply of Doom...

Wow, that's pretty interesting. But unlike Grandfather, you're not pure evil, or inconsiterate of other people's feelings.
Really? That's pretty intersting, so essentially uor parents are life partners. But enough of that though, I actually liked the idea that you used you own real life experience and incorporated that into the character, it's really unique and something you don't see a lot of writers do( or at least admit).
Thanks, I'm not really sure if that's what could have happened. But going by Abby's logic and how her sister's betrayal obviously affected her, it kind of makes sense in my head.
Wow, that's a pretty interesting origin and interpretation of the Toilenator. Now ot be honest, I think his origin was already covered in the CN bloack Party comics, but I sort of perfer your idea over him being Wally's uncle.
Next time I come on here, I'll probably talk about Rachel.

Oh, boy. This ought to be fun to digest. It may safe to assume that I've attempted to retain the basic attributes for most of the major characters, with certain extensions for the more minor characters. More often than not, I've placed a emphasis on romantic friendship as ways to compare the male characters with the female characters, at least in some instances. For example, I've thought of Herbie as rather shy and humble, but clearly dedicated to his work in the Kids Next Door. That said, he may not necessarily understand the full details of a specific operation, so if the villains involved are especially evil -- most likely villains of my own creation -- then he can and probably will express disbelief at what he's describing to Lizzie.
As for Lizzie herself, I've thought of her as strong-willed, but also observant if the other Kids Next Door are up to something. She might be more direct than Herbie would expect more often than not, but she clearly doesn't mind flirting with him. One might expect her to be quite curious about whatever the Kids Next Door are doing, particularly if an adult villain is involved, but fortunately, she can deliver whatever her friends need to her, then wish them success and good luck in their operations. If she can adopt the Kids Next Door's seriousness about their missions, then any compliments about her abilities may be that much more understandable to the members of that organization.

I like the way you talk about Lizzie and Herbie, Angel. T'is cute. ^//^ You've developed them both very well. And! Lee&Sonia. Can't forget them, now can we? The only character development in my mind is my version of Rachel. Season Six is erased, only leaving the ending to Operation: ZERO. (...now I'm thinking that's where the series should have stopped. I for one think it would have made a satisfying ending for lots of fans, IMO. ....... until Allie D/NLW/RedStar came around and unleashed a new KND show of her AU, and then for GKND, exc. XD *shot*) Numbuh 362 is kind and compassionate, and feels guilty for what she did in the past. (yet season six is erased) Example; Mistakes, bad decisions, exc. The only people she feels as if she understands them in the my AU are Nigel, Ryan ((her daddy)), Monty, and Sector V most of the time. She'll talk silliness with Pat and Laura, too. :3 (She and Nigel tease Pataura, like Hoagie and Abby tease Wally&Kuki. ) She holds a gihugically, obvious, describable (is that even a word?) crush on Nigel, even if he is with Lizzie... but sometimes she may feel jealous, but that's okay. She only wishes for him to be happy. But when she hears of Nigel and Lizzie breaking up... well, she feels so relieved that she can finally have time with her lil' bald hero. ^^ And she's pretty shy once it comes to being very close with Nigel. But it's a good shyness. And he feels so much towards her too. My version of 1/362 is kinda like a fairytale, mixed with real, true love. I know they're only 10-11, but a friend of mine on dA once said they're really matured after GIRLFRIEND. XD; So... I don't know what else. *shrug* No one is allowed to use my Rachel without my permission... I'm one of those people who are very paranoid who steal/get "inspired" by my ideas/stories/fanart. ^^; *coughespeciallyifit'sagainst1/362cough* But yeah. I swear she's becoming too much like an AMC character. XD; I mean, there's a few references that my KND AU has and there's a few AMC things in there. (Ryan McKenzie = Ryan Lavery ((Father of Emma))/Cameron Mathison ((if Ryan existed, Cameron would be his VA.)), Rachel's mom in the institution = Annie Lavery ((ex-wife of Ryan, mother of Emma)), White gardenias are Rachel's fav flower in my AU = Using lots of gardenias during the 'Satin Slyer' scenes when he killed off the Fusion girls.)

prettywitchiusaka: No...they're not life partners...they just dated for about a year, then he kinda caused their break-up (my mom was always one to take charge) OMG I never thought that he was Wally's uncle! I seriously didn't know that...I'll need to find that comic now...

I like your interpretation of Lizzie as well C7. Her being observant instead of totally oblivious to everything is a good way to go, especially in the ways of character development.
I also like your interpretation of Rachel as well Allie. Although I do believ that to some degree that your Rachel and mine aren't that far off from each other, for be both believe Rachel to be a kind, generous person. I too also see her as looking for atonement for the things she's done, because she wants to forgive her operatives as opposed to herself.
I sort fo go down the road of Rachel being a kind of tragic figure who was sort of isolated as a child, and somehow feels that she will be isolated by everyone and everything she loves one day.
In terms of romance, I think we all know who I have her paired up with in my( and a few other people's) heads.
Edit- PaulaGirl
Sorry about teh lifepartners thing, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.
And yes, teh Toilenator is Wally's uncle.

I like the way you talk about Lizzie and Herbie, Angel. T'is cute. ^//^ You've developed them both very well. And! Lee&Sonia. Can't forget them, now can we? No need to worry, fellow Sweet Yo-Yo Soldier. In fact, I may have been about ready to analyze those two kids right now. I've thought of Lee and Sonia as younger but slightly more curious -- and adventurous -- versions of Wally and Kuki. While Lee tends to be somewhat quiet and calm, Sonia is rather innocent and timid. Sonia certainly looks up to Lee, and he's eager to protect her however they can. Yet, I have come to consider them to also be rather curious about, say, what Nigel and Rachel are doing, such that they've been quietly watching those two Kids Next Door commanders work to decipher the clues they've found to ensure that the rest of the Kids Next Door can be ready to stop whatever new adult villains are about to rise up and challenge people of all ages worldwide. Taking inspiration from Nigel and Rachel's similar thought processes, Lee and Sonia to set forth to help their fellow Kids Next Door take down said villains, along with any minions and associates those new villains have, letting their romantic friendship shine through in the process.

That'd be an interesting way to interpret Sonia and Lee, considering how much Kuki and Sonia are alike. Let's just pray that our little Lee isn't as dumb as Wally though.

Let's just pray that our little Lee isn't as dumb as Wally though. (sweatdropping) How interesting that you should mention that last trait of Wally, at least as Codename: Kids Next Door fans remember. I would venture that while Lee and Sonia can be checking up on Nigel and Rachel's rounds of research, Wally and Kuki possess what one might call "common sense". While Kuki can get along with and gain the trust of any new kids who turn to be in a lot of trouble, Wally might almost instinctively pick up when something is wrong from the way that some people are acting. You could say that I've maintained a focus on basic knowledge for the Kids Next Door, if in order to have them be even better at defending freedom for kids around the world.

I see what you're saying. I mostly try to stick to what the characters give me to work with, but I suppose Wally could be slightly interpretive as an interpretation. He wouldn't be exactly stupid, he's just not knowledgeable academically, and has a tendency to misunderstand certain concepts.
Edit- I actually have two more interpretations I'd like to discuss today. One involves a new perspective of one character, and the otehr involves just an idea about a character I've already talked about.
The first I wanted to talk about is Numbuh 20, 000, who has become a favorite side character of mine as a result of OUTBREAK. My actual interpretation of what I think his character is like actually comes from that very episode, that interpretation is that he is incredibly over the top( one might even call him a Drama Queen), and takes everything he does incredibly seriously( particularily the KND). This causes many KND operatives to perceive him as weird in spite of admiring his dedication, and are constantly staring at him weirdly when he becomes ubber serious. There is also an on-going rumor throught the KND that Numbuh 20, 00 might have some sort of menatl deffect, given some of his plans to stop certain villains which almost seem like suicide missions. One last thing to note is that for some reason, I keep thinking that his name could be Charlie.
The second concerns an idea I have with Patton. As I mentioned in my previous idea of my interpretation of him, I see him as a very kind and caring person in spite of being bully like every now and then. But somehow, I feel that that kindness would be his downfall. Why I think this is because to me, Patton is the kind of person who is incerdibly passionate about anything that concerns him, from interests, beliefs, the KND, and even people he cares about. A passion like that seems like he would be crushed underneath its weight someday.

Academia-style research, or simple instinct? After having had several days to ponder the differences between those two approaches, I may see an opportunity to communicate another couple that's been playing a role in my fanfiction model: Bartie Stork, better known as Numbuh 35, and Virginia Sims, better known as Numbuh 23. I've thought of Bartie as being rather conscious of his surroundings, including any developing events across Earth, most likely evidenced in the alarm in his voice whenever something bad happens. Virginia, on the other hand, might be more mischievous, willing to play a little trick on Bartie from time to time, but mostly enjoying his presence. Together, they can help inform the leading Kids Next Door -- Nigel, Rachel, Patton, and Fanny, in my model -- of any new developments regarding whatever threat they're confronting, so that those leading Kids Next Door can take action on their own.
Speaking of new threats to the Kids Next Door, I am left to ponder my "original character" villains, if that's the phrase of choice here. I can affirm Grandfather's absolute arrogance and "pure evil", as he himself put it, and yet, the villains of my creation may be even colder, from Ali Muhammad Teherani to Adolf Solanus to Mahdi Escobar. I've tried making a point out of having any new villains who threaten the Kids Next Door avoid smiling, a first hint of their overall ruthlessness. An even bigger demonstration of that ruthlessness may be present in their responses to the Kids Next Door's efforts to stop them: they become so full of rage that nothing less than extermination of the entire organization and every other person -- whether said person is 75, 50, 25, or 10 years old -- who opposes them will satisfy them. It may help that I've based these villains on certain tyrants in the real world whom I've deemed the worst of the worst, so to speak. Quite a few times, nuclear weapons are involved in these villains' acts of revenge, perhaps to demonstrate how dead serious they intend to be about their forms of darkness. Their actions have the effect of persuading the Kids Next Door that they, if individually, could exceed even Grandfather's form of adult tyranny, making these prepubescent secret agents that much more determined to take these new villains down once and for all.
Lastly, at least for now, we have Patton and Fanny, whose personalities I may have sought to maintain from the show. Both of them can be loyal and strict about their duties, but when Patton is curious about anything Fanny's been learning, she can tell him what's on her mind. To be sure, Fanny might throw a couple of hints of a romantic interest at Patton, which makes him a bit nervous, but he typically places anyone else's romantic interests into the context of a mission whenever it comes up as a point of discussion. Patton and Fanny may argue a bit more often than, say, Nigel and Rachel, but that may more likely be a result of their dedication to the Kids Next Door than differing thought processes between these two commanding kids.

A passion like that seems like he would be crushed underneath its weight someday. You know what's funny, I've actually paired up my self-insert oc (Numbuh 254) with him...and yes, he might have a mental defect, but I think it could be some sort of trama that occured during Cadet training...like this for example: While training, he always was loyal to his friends although he mainly made sure to stay out of harm's way. Then, when his troop's leader went down with their 2x4 ship on a sub-mission, even though that wasn't completely necessary, 20,000 saw this as a sign of true courage...which was displayed through OUTBREAK. Then here's my other theory: He made a friend during cadet-training (my occ) and the two were fairly close. However, when the two were paired on a mission together (I'm gonna say, Candy Mountain (XD)), they were ambushed by TEENz riding on unicorns, and they barely made it out alive. 254 was badly injured, but passed off the numerous wounds as "just a scratch" before passing out. 20, 000 on the other hand, wasn't as badly injured, but was wounded in some areas all the same. Even though the ambush was clearly unexpected, he still felt it was his own fault seeing as how he wasn't really being a "team-player" as everytime 254 tried to help him with something, he pushed her away...(although it could've been because he thought she had cooties or something); also, he wasn't very loyal as standing next to his cadet-member's side when facing up to them. After the whole ordeal, he vowed to never again run away when the chips are down, and face up to the challenge...even if it means to die in the process. Plus....I've always thought his name would be Nemo ;D
