Perhaps if she was speaking, he would have picked up on it faster, but instead he simply looked at Nalo curiously when her pen faltered. The mixture of emotions was almost pouring out of her, apparent in her body language that had so many clues hidden beneath the layers. Etoile stayed silent, unsure of what was going on, and then he saw her write the single sentence.
It all made sense, after that, and Etoile realized with a pang in his stomach just how deep her feelings were. He felt the same way, sometimes, when he was alone and allowed himself to dream of home, but he liked to have a happy face when he was out in public.
Silently, he tightened his arm that was loosely draped over her shoulders and let his head fall into the curve of her neck, hugging the girl without really hugging her. He wasn't sure what to say to comfort her, so he let the gesture say it for him, a silent motion of comfort that was small but, hopefully, helpful, just like she had given him before.

"Fixed it!"
Milo-Lee turned for the map that she had been scanning. She saw Etoile standing there, dripping wet, and laughed a little. She stepped out of the way as he picked up the map, and pointed to a star.
"That's mine, D'thlany. My little sister and parents are there."
Oh, so it was a planet. She stared at it for a minute, considering asking about his sister, when he spoke up again.
"You'll have to excuse me. I've got to figure out where we're going so that we can get started."
She smiled and nodded, "Of course," She then padded back over to the defense systems controls, inspecting them again with nothing else to do. A few seconds later she felt something wet soaking into her shoes. She jerked her paws into the chair and turned to see Etoile, standing with Nalo, soaking wet, a sheet of water covering the floor. She rolled her eyes a little, amused, and turned back to the controls.

Finnick quickly double-checked the coordinates that Cyril had entered, and, now reassured that they weren't going to fly into a black hole or something, leaned back in his chair and watch Etoile juggling what looked like balls of water. It seemed so, because one had just splashed Nalo in the chest, and Etoile had dropped the rest, and they now splashed across the floor. He turned back to the controls, like Cyril, wondering how long they'd be.

The engine room door opened, and the twins sauntered in, Unagi throwing his arms around Vibe. Dengeki, meanwhile, opened a random compartment connected to the engine and inspected it carefully. Finally, he reached in and disconnected a wire, causing the whole ship to lurch forward. After hearing complaints from the disgruntled aliens above, he yelled a quick apology. "Sorry dudes, my bad!!!"
He licked the tip of the wire, which sent a wave of electricity through his body and appeared as a spark coming off his tail. Reaching back into the compartment, he plugged the wire into a different socket, causing the rocket to lurch forward yet again. Hearing the protests of the others on the ship, yet again, he sighed and yelled back to them. "Oh can it!!! I just made the ship faster!!!"

When she felt her friend tightening his grip, she turned her head towards him, eyes already sliding shut, burying her face in his curly hair. Her features had reverted to their usual emotionless state, but a miserable frown was trying to break through, just tugging at the corners of her mouth. It wasn't visible at all while her face was where it was, and she turned her head just slightly so she could see the paper and continue to write.
"I was just a lousy janitor in my planet's sector," she explained, her handwriting not as neat as before, not because of her emotion, simply because she felt in a safe enough position to loosen up on the perfect handwriting she was brought up to write in. "I never got much of an explanation for why I was sent up here instead of any other operative, just that I "had the potential," whatever that's supposed to mean. I never did anything, I was basically housekeeper. I don't know where they got the information to base it on from."
The pen tip was hovering again; she'd mananged to end her sentence before her nerves got the better of her and stunted her writing.
EDIT:
In the engine room, Vibe raised her eyebrows at Dengeki's DIY wire mechanics, absentmindedly looping an arm around her boyfriend at the same time.
"You sure you know what you're doing?" she asked, not thoroughly convinced his tinkering was going to help in any way. "The last thing we need is for you to completely reassemble the whole compartment," she commented.

Etoile waited for the ship to quit jerking before he spoke again, figuring that it was one of the twins mucking about with the system. When the ship was stabilized, he returned his attention to Nalo, watching her write out her explanation, full of confusion and insecurities. He didn't know if he could say anything to help her, but he was going to try.
A bare whisper of a voice. "Because you have a level head and you are capable of so many things." While he didn't know her as much as he knew those on his own planet, he had seen at least that much of her so far. "They must have seen how amazing you are, and you don't even realize it yet because you haven't had a chance to prove it."
His words faltered, and he waited for her reaction before continuing, continuing to hug her tightly as though she might fall if he let go.

The shaking of the ship barely registered with Nalo, only when the jerking had caused the pen to skid across the paper in the wrong direction.
She listened to Etoile speaking, looking into his hair again as she let him talk. There was quite a delay between him finishing and her responding, as she mulled over the words in her head for some time. But when she did make a physical response, it became apparent quickly that her responses weren't exactly enthusiastic.
"But"... once more, her words seemed to be ending just as they began. Now she was caught between two extremes; she very much wanted to be alone right now, however she didn't want to leave the comforting embrace of her friend.
It wasn't just the public view of their position that was putting her off staying, it was also the insecurity she was experiencing, and yet she was struggling to bring herself to pull away.
The girl ended up staying there, albeit reluctantly, and the pen in her metal hand keeled over, not falling from her grip but accidentally indicating her unresponsive state.

"No 'but's."
His voice became teasingly firm in an attempt to cheer her up. An attempt that would probably fail, but it was all that he had. He didn't like seeing the frown on her face, nor did he enjoy the fact that she seemed to have shut herself down.
"You're just as capable of any of us here. I can't. . . I can't even juggle spheres of water without dropping them." A weak grin. "A-and besides, you don't have to fight alone, right? We're all here to help. I've got your back."
But she seemed to want to leave, and he didn't know if she was staying for herself or just so that he wasn't hurt by her departure. So he gave her an opening to escape if she wanted to. "When I'm sad, sometimes I want to be alone," he whispered softly. "If you want to leave, I won't mind."

Dengeki turned to Vibe. "Of course I know what I'm doing!" He used hand gestures as he explained. "It's an old trick our brother taught us. Plug the SKGC wire into the ADTR socket and more power gets to the engine. That way, we can make a quick escape if we have to." He closed the compartment and looked at other part the mechanisms around him.
Unagi noticed Vibe's doubting expression. "Oh don't worry," he smiled. "It works"

"No 'but's."
She looked in the general direction of his face when he spoke, but her gaze flickered aimlessly as she listened, her golden orbs not seeming to be able to focus on anything properly while she absorbed the words. They didn't seem to be filtering properly in her brain, either, although the meaning of the words was definitely making it through to her subconscious.
"When I'm sad, sometimes I want to be alone..." these words seemed to wake up Nalo's mind again, and although her eyes still wouldn't focus, her mind was deciphering the words properly. "If you want to leave, I won't mind."
And then she was gone.
The paper and pen fell into Etoile's lap as their metal support vanished. Nearly a blur, the girl was already well out of sight and making a beeline for the bathroom before the boy could turn to look for her, should he decide to do so.
Something had clicked in her mind which allowed her to move away. But in those last few moments, she'd left a hastily scrawled "sorry" on the paper, reverting back to her perfect curved handwriting despite her mental status.
EDIT:
Vibe merely rolled her eyes. Trust the boys to think they know best. She wasn't doubting their skills, just the c0cky attitudes they harboured. With any luck, their combined power would be useful on this mission, and not twice the failure.
(Aaand now I need to sleep. T-T)

She was gone in a flash before Etoile knew what was happening.
Only the note that she had left explained her sudden absence. "Sorry." He didn't know why she was apologizing, since he had given her permission to leave, but at least he was able to hope that she was able to gather herself back together while she was hiding. If anything, he should be apologizing, for dredging up the memories that had made her upset.
She had left the paper and the pen, which he now looked at, reading over her words again. His fingers twitched toward the pen, and then it was in his hand, and he turned toward the main area of the ship so that no one would easily be able to look over his shoulder at the paper.
He wasn't the best artist, not by a long shot. But slowly, carefully, a head turned into a torso, and then into a full-figured form, complete with vague details that he was able to recall. The pen moved quickly now, scratching out a couple more details, along with vague shading, and then he leaned back to inspect his work.
A sketch of Nalo, and her surprised face when he had splashed her with water. The memory made him smile, and drawing the girl now lifted his melancholy mood. Hoping that no one had glimpsed the paper, he tucked it away into his uniform, to be saved for later.
He hoped that she was okay. He would find out later. But for now, he returned to his navigational system, and he used it to explore the depths of space that reached on forever.

Ynda peeked up when she heard a different voice call for her, in a more gentle fashion. She spotted Nebulos at the small stairs and blinked in surprise as she listened to him asking for her help.
She simply sat there for a minute without response, but then she quickly jumped off the backseat and ran to him, not letting a chance to make herself useful pass by.
"Sure," she tried to answer as casually as possible, although she was sure the blue alien knew her well enough to realize she was grateful that he'd helped her. With a small smile, she placed her paw in his white hair and ruffled it some. "I'll make sure to observe everything that you miss."

Patient as he was, the little boy waited, his posterior unmoving, except for his hands, which had disappeared behind his back again, save those who held the telescope. He could see the look of surprise on his friends face, who clearly hadn't expected such a question and it seemed his request had to sink in for a bit. In that meantime, his smile only widened a bit, amused at her reaction. The antennea atop his scalp flashed a little as he saw her leap off the seat and run towards him in a rather fast tempo. As she accepted his offer to assist him, Nebulos opened his mouth to speak, but instead of words, laughter came out when the taller squirt ruffled the top of his snowy locks. Hiccough-chuckles escaped the Luminarian's petite frame, like a small child who was being tickled, one foot in the air and using the other to lean upon as Ynda's movements were making him go slightly out of balance. When Ynda withdrew her hand, Nebulos chuckles began to ease and he ran a gloved hand through his -now shaggier- white hair.
"I'm counting on it!"
The blue alien replied, shoving a piece of hair out of his face. He smiled up at her and gestured to the flight of stairs once more.
"It's right this way, let's go!"
Before he left, his white gaze quickly wandered across the room, taking in the present operatives. All seemed hard at work, apart from those involved in a conversation, so he decided they'd better get to work themselves. He was certain that if his presence or Ynda's was required somewhere, they'd be called upon through their communicators. He flashed his green friend another smile, before he made way for the staircase with the usual bounce in his step.
The stairs didn't seem to be fit for alien their size, but Nebulos was so used to such events, he hardly paid any attention to it anymore. Cheerfully, while humming a tune, the boy nimbly lept onto the first step and then to the other, occasionally using a free hand to lift himself to the next level. He let out a little yelp in surprise when the ship made a sudden lurch, causing him to bump into the left wall that ran alongside of the stairs. Startled, Nebulos only barely managed to hold onto the overly large telescope and let out a little sigh in relief he'd managed to do so. Somewhere from the back, he heard Dengeki call out a vague apology and he guessed he'd been trying to execute some adjustments to the ship. Barely having climbed up a few other steps, the ship jerked forwards once again, startling Nebulos once again. This time, however, his tiny fingers didn't manage to hold onto the telescope's smooth surface and the item flew in the air. The Luminarian uttered a cry in shock, his antennea alluminating in alarm as he watched the binoculars soar towards his companion behind him.

"....Mhmmmm... okay this is useless, maybe if I... no that won't work, hrm..."
The yellow pilot bird was trying to find something that would indicate how long their journey was going to be, but nothing was helping. Mumbling to himself, he squawked when the ship suddenly jerked.
"I DIDN'T DO IT!!" he yelled, but moments later the twins admitted being the cause of the movement, stirring a nervous chuckle in Cyril. The exact same response happened when the twins knocked the ship about a second time.
In the bathroom, the grey skinned girl was invisible.
She had deliberately turned all of the lights off when she entered, since her night vision allowed her to see in the dark, not to mention she preferred the dark. Anyone who entered would be unable to see the troubled girl, hiding in the corner, breathing slowly and silently, thinking quietly to herself. Actually, anyone who entered the room might notice the two floating orbs of yellow-orange amongst the shadows.
Similar to many nocturnal animals, her eyes tended to brightly reflect what little light was present in the room, and the visible radiation seeping in from around the door and windows was just barely enough. As the spaceship passed bright stars and other light emitting objects, her face would illuminate briefly, revealing the less than emotional face.
The miserable frown was still trying to break through, and she was still struggling to push it back. No tears, though. She was far from that point; she just needed a few moments to herself in order to recover.
Nalo just didn't understand why she was sent on such a mission when she was incapable of normal communication and had never served on an off-site mission back home before. She knew herself that she did have potential, but she had no clue how the KND had deduced it without input from her.
But there was nothing she could do now. Now, it was her duty to aid the kids of space that weren't as capable as the huge Galactic team, to aid the kids that needed their help. But pushing back those selfish feelings of wanting to go home is difficult when you're just a child.
(Aww, I felt really bad writing that last bit. DX)

Ynda continued to smile when Nebulos answered her gesture with a series of chuckles. Somehow, the smaller squirt was always able to cheer her up one way or another.
She followed him as soon as he started to walk up the stairs. Just like him, she was too small to cross the steps like a taller alien could, but she could use less effort due to her slightly bigger size and the fact she wasn't holding anything. However, she was well aware of the trouble Nebulos had in front of her, having to make sure not to let himself or the telescope fall.
Just as she was about to ask him if he was doing okay, the ship flew forward, which caused both her and him to nearly end up falling back down. She exhaled a sigh in relief when they both managed to keep standing, in Nebulos's case without dropping the telescope. However, the incident occured once more, and Ynda's eyes widened when her friend lost hold of the telescope this time.
She ran towards it as it fell to her, ready to catch it. She had, however, underestimated its weight and wasn't prepared to catch something this heavy to her. Letting out a yell as she lost her balance, she and the telescope fell down the stairs after all, both hitting every step. Eventually, Ynda landed on her stomach, and just one second later, the telescope landed on her back. She exhaled a painful grunt and needed a moment to pick herself back up, during which she remembered who had been shouting an apology from inside the engine room earlier. Despite the pain she currently felt, she hissed to herself: "I'm going to kill that Fishface..."

Frowning, Etoile ignored the lurching ship, and focused on the map with eyes that were narrowed with concentration. His fingers were counting distances and anyone who was listening closely enough could hear him mumbling things to himself, with snatches of, "lightyears per hour," and "distances."
His mind was whirling as he struggled to compute the time it would take for them to get there. The yellow alien had been touched with a mathematical mind that was a little rusty, but still workable. Using the pilot's board to figure out the speed, he tracked the distance to their destination with his fingers and then shuffled over to where Cyril was steering.
"E-excuse me?" Too meek. He spoke up. "If I've calculated correctly, Cyril, we should be there in just a few hours."
