Your post was great, Renee, thanks for starting us off! ---
" . . . No."
"Yes!"
"Tala, no."
"I'd love to see you stop me."
"No."
The green-haired girl gave a sigh of exasperation at the sheer oddity of brothers. Granted, she was trying to convince him to let her go to the dance in short-shorts and a tank-top, but still. He could be so ridiculous sometimes. "I'm not wearing a dress, Etoile!"
Her older brother was already in his suit, and Tala eyed him with affection when he wasn't looking. A rather normal-looking suits, as they tended to go, except for the zippers that circled halfway up the pants and the trips of telekinetic reception areas. They had struggled to do something with his ridiculous mop of curls, and managed to make them look a little nicer than usual, but it was an unavoidable fact that those curls were utterly, completely, and horribly untameable.
"Find something." His baby-blues were pleading with her. "Please?"
The girl scowled slightly. "Fine. Get out."
He obediently left to give her the privacy that she deserved, and with a glare at the mirror, she began to search through her closet again. She was only pleased with a few of the items she had in there that could even be considered with a dance. . .
Oh. That might work.
"Alright, you can come back in." It had only been a few minutes, and the boy was a little worried when he slipped back into her room, expecting something like low-riding, baggy jeans and a leather jacket. Although she didn't normally dress like that, you never knew how far a rebellious Tala might go. But what he found was surprisingly. . . pleasant to look at.
Long, flowing grey pants that flared out at the bottom, and a fitting blue blouse that dangled at the sleeves and the hem. Around her waist, she had tightened four thin belts, and Etoile wasn't exactly surprised by this, although she managed to look feminine despite her refusal to wear the dress, with belts of all designs and colors. Her feet she had left bare, and both of them silently hoped that she wouldn't dance with anyone who had feet-stomping habits.
"Well?"
"I'm impressed. No, really," he said when she gave him a doubting expression. Moving closer, he eyed the tight ponytail that she had, as usual. "Are you going to leave your hair like that?"
Orange eyes glanced over him critically. "Why wouldn't I?"
The boy rolled his eyes and reached around, pulling the hairband out of her hair while the girl made a noise of protest. She rather disliked having her hair in her face, and she only glared at her brother while he loosed them of their hold. He lifted a finger of command and grinned at her. "Shake."
Trying to hold back her laughter now, Tala began to shake her head like a dog, rustling out the locks of hair and watching as they began to spring and flip out in whatever directions they pleased. When she finally straightened, grinning like a loon, she looked like the green, female version of some kind of jungle monster. "How's this?"
"Gorgeous. You'll be the best-looking girl there."
"I know, right?"
Laughing, she pulled the strands away from her face and used her fingers to straighten them around her face, examining how they fell lightly to frame her face and sat in a tousled wave on her shoulder and back. For a moment, she felt almost different, more like a woman than a girl. But she brushed that aside; she was still Tala.
She caught Etoile looking at her strangely and lifted an eyebrow, now slightly wondering if he disapproved of her appearance. But he shook his head slightly, stepping back to take in her whole appearance. "You look a bit like mom. . ."
"No," Tala dismissed, feeling open under his scrutinizing eye. "Mom was beautiful. I'm just Tala."
Etoile knew better than to argue with her, although he couldn't help but think of T'suki Ganmade whenever he glanced at her. "Come on, you nut. Let's go find the others."
"Kill me first," Tala muttered, although she was smiling when she hooked arms with him, a little overenthusiastic. "I'll come with you, just so I can see Nalo's face when she sees you. And the other way around. Wait a second, I need a camera."
"Stop that." Taking her hand, he pulled her gently out the door to go search for other aliens. "Will you behave, even just a little?"
"I'll consider it."

*claps* good first posts guys....Renee, yours' wasn't too short, it as cute!
Lol, Short-shorts for a dance are win. There was a girl who actually came to my Homecoming dance during my freshman year with Short-shorts on..it looked a little creepy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Will you stop fidgeting?"
"I will once this strap stops being evil."
"For the last time it's not evil....you just don't have it adjusted right."
Inside one of the room on the base, two girls were getting ready. Zoelin was still squrming inside her dress, trying to figure out how to make the straps work, which was why Lunira was there. The taller girl figured that the two of them could get ready for the dance, and at the same time, Zoelin needed some help as to what to wear.
The choices took awhile, as some of them were a little complicated to put on, and others were just plain silly. There was one that was pretty shiny--key word being, was, as Zoelin had taken every spot that was be-dazzled and placed it in a box with her other collectables of shiny-things.
Lunira debated on asking what was exactly in the box that the Whiskite considered "shiny", but she decided not to. Finally, the two did decide on a dress, though Zoelin had only one problem with it.
"It's too loose. What if I need to fly or something? My tails are very expressive." They did solve this, however, by finding some dark purple tights that she could wear underneath the smooth faint-purplish pink dress.
The choice was simple, yet elegant enough for a dance. They didn't intend on Zoelin messing with the straps to the point that they were hard to undo. As of right now, Lunira was standing on top of Zoelin's dresser, while said girl was sitting down in front of it, back turned so the small panda-like girl could reach the strings.
"It's kinda funny," Lunira began, as she was trying to undo the knot that appeared on the strings. "You can take things apart, but when it comes to un-tying things, it's the opposite," she giggled.
Zoelin thought about it for a moment and then nodded, chuckling as well. "It is funny."
"And....done!" Lunira took a couple of steps back as Zoelin stood up. "See? I told you it wasn't evil....Aww, you look cute!"
Zoelin lowered her head and twirled slowly, making sure that her tails didn't accidently hit anything as she did so. "Really?"
"Uh-huh." Lunira nodded and folded her arms, tilting her head from one side to the other in a spectulating manner. When her green eyes scanned the gerbil-esque girl, they landed on her feet.
"Uh...Zo?"
"Yeah?"
"Aren't you going to wear any shoes?" Zoelin stopped twirling for a moment, before looking down at her own feet.
She looked back up, and Lunira could see a blond eyebrow raise. "Luni, when have you ever seen me wear shoes?"
"Hmm...good point. Well, what about your hair?"
"What about it?"
"Don't you want to do something to it?"
Zoelin tilted her head to the side, before nodding thoughtfully. "You know, maybe..I have been considering a mo-hawk."
"Zoeli," Lunira sighed.
"I kid, I kid..But seriously, I dunno..Why, did you have something in mind?"
It didn't take long before Zoelin began to regret asking the Ursaminorian's opinion. "You just had to do it."
Lunira jumped off of Zoelin's shoulder, and onto the dresser, looking into the mirror. "What's wrong with it? I think it looks fine."
"You can see my eyes." When she had asked for the smaller girl's opinion, she didn't know what Lunira actually have in mind. As it turned out, it consisted of taking the girl's blond hair out of it's slight ponytail, brushing the edges, and clipping her bangs back with a dark purple clip.
Lunira rolled her eyes and sighed. "You big baby. It's not like anyone seeing your eyes is a bad thing."
"But, it's what makes me, me."
"Which is why it slightly covers your other eye...okay?" Lunira was right. When she had pinned back the girl's bangs, Zoelin's left eye couldn't be seen, only her right.
"I'd have to say, the dress does match your eyes." She added with a giggle, as Zoelin only stared into the mirror, with only one lavendar orb staring back.
"Okay, okay..you win. Now, it's your turn." Zoelin turned her attention from the mirror towards her friend, grinning madly with silvery gray teeth showing. Lunira took a step back, but raised a finger.
"Ah-ah-ah....I've already picked out mine...Just give me a minute."
When Lunira went behind the girl's mirror, which Zoelin had to first tilt slightly so she could go right behind it and change while also being able to see, the Whiskite teen stood back up and twirled a little more.
"All right, I'm done."
Zoelin looked back up, seeing Lunira emerge from behind the mirror, her dress already on. It was a faint light green with a few hints of blue and dark green mixed in the cloth. The straps were blue along with the belt around it, and the shoulders had a slight ruffle to it. Unlike Zoelin, however, she decided to wear shoes, which straped around her ankles. They gave her some height, but not very much.
"Awwwwwww, you look adowable!" Zoelin cooed, purposely mispronouncing the word, adorable as she sat back down at the dresser.
Lunira smiled and twirled a bit. "You think?"
"But....what about your hair?"
"Well, I was going to do it before I came, but I figured, since you let me do yours, why don't you do mine?" Lunira asked, before seeing the same evil grin upon her friend's face.
"Oh really? Well, sit on down..." And she pulled out a small box for the tiny girl to sit on, which Lunira had warily did.
"You're not going to do payback on me, are you?"
"No, no...just relax, all right?" Lunira shrugged at the girl's words, still a little unsure but less afraid. It didn't take long for Zoelin to style Lunira's hair, though her head was way smaller than her own.
"All right, I'm finished. It's my best work, so I expect to be paid." Lunira laughed a little as she went towards the mirror to take a better look. For one of the few times in her life, her hair wasn't as fluffy. It was completely straight, although some parts were a little curled here and there.
"Wow," she whispered in awe, feeling her hair. Zoelin handed her the ribbons she had to take out in order to do the bearish girl's hair, and Lunira tied them back onto her ears, though in a specific way that they didn't hang as freely and loose as they usually were.
Turning around, she held out her arms signifying that she wanted a hug, which Zoelin had gladly given. "Thanks! It's very pretty."
"Eh, you brush my tail, I do your hair," she replied, before picking up the girl. "All right, now that we're both ready, let's go find some buddies!"
Lunira nodded and was about to jump out of Zoelin's arms until the girl had asked, "you wanna ride, or walk?"
"Um...I think I'll walk. If that's all right."
Zoelin shrugged as she opened the door to let Lunira out first. "Suit yourself."

Short-shorts to a dance? Now I've heard it all! *giggles* Silly Tala is so silly! Love that girl! ^^ Good thing she didn't go through with it, she looks lovely in her dance outfit. Paula your post was SO cute and funny! Zoelin wearing a mohawk! lol! *giggles* She's so awesome and so is Luni!! ------------------ Instead of floating down the hall like she normally did, the teenage Princess decided to walk. Every now and again, greeting others who were on their way to the dance as well. She sighed a bit, there was still no sign of Numbuh Infinity. 'I hope Masurao didn't scare him away... She fretted to herself. Masurao had the tendency to intimidate guys from getting anywhere near her, she assumed it was the piercing green glower he gave them whenever a guy attempted to converse with her, even if it was about the simplest of subjects. "You never be certain of their intentions. " Came his monotone explanation every time. How was she supposed to dance with her date if she couldn't get near him? "Princess?" A voice rang out questioningly. Niji looked up and saw said date, her face brightened her worries momentarily forgotten. "Jamal!" She levitated off the shiny floor to greet him with a hug. The human boy froze, with a deep red blush crawling across his dark brown cheeks. Though he wasn't sure if it was from her appearance or the fact that she was hugging him at this very moment. After a minute or two, she released him, and took a step back, "Nice suit." She complimented with an approving nod. He blushed rubbing the back of his head. "Why thank you Princess Niji..." He bowed politely, "Though, I thought we agreed that I'd meet you at your room? I hope I did not make you wait too long. My mother always said that it was rude to keep a lady waiting..." He let his head hung low a bit. Niji shook her head laughingly, "Of course not. I chose to come out of my room." She said shrugging her shoulders lightly, "I guess you could say it was the excitement that drew me out." She laughed. Her dismissal of his worry caused him to smile back at her, "Oh!" He said suddenly, he reached behind him to pull out a blue flower with a short orange stem. "For you, Princess Niji..." He presented with another bow. Niji's eyes widened slightly, "For me?" She gently took the flower from his hand and cupped it in her palms. "Thank you, you didn't have to do that." She said softly, her cheeks warming with a light blue flush. "No thanks required, Princess. I was more than happy to give you this flower, as well as trimming the sharp thorns that came attached to the stem." Niji giggled, "Yeah, well trimming off the dangerously sharp thorns was very thoughtful of you too." She gave the flower a light sniff. "It smells nice..." She placed the flower in her hair. "How does it look?" She looked up at it. "I think...I think the flower looks lovely now that you are wearing it, Princess Niji. You made the flower very stylish." The colorful girl blushed deeper, "Thank you..." She humbled. "Lets go meet the others." She said taking his arm.

As many other aliens, Ynda was also in her room, driven to the point of frustration by the delayed decision on what to wear for the dance. It was bad enough she was actually going; she wanted to find a suit that would make her stand out as little as possible. That's why she was currently digging hurriedly into her closet, throwing every article of clothing she rejected over her shoulder on the floor (all of which were followed by an agitated "no", "too fancy", "too girly", "too small", "too big" and many more excuses).
Outside the closet was the big box that contained her collection of romance novels. She had carried it outside so it wouldn't be in the way during her search. A little egg-shaped alien suddenly jumped out of the box, holding one of the books in his mouth. "Wemigwo!"
"Not now, Lemigo," Ynda mumbled to her unofficially adopted baby alien. "I'm busy finding a suit for that stupid dance."
Lemigo dropped the book. "Lemigo?" he asked confusedly, still able to say his own name only. However, he did seem to understand what his mother meant, because he suddenly ducked into the closet as well. "Lemigo, Lemigo!"
"What are you--" Wide-eyed, Ynda reached for the little alien, wanting to prevent him from making an even bigger mess than there already was. But she pulled back when Lemigo jumped out, this time carrying a red, tutu-like dress in his mouth.
Ynda raised an eyebrow, slightly confused herself. "You... want me to wear that?" She carefully pointed to the dress, which Lemigo answered with a few enthusiastic bounces. "Wemigwo, Wemigwo!"
Hesitatingly, Ynda took the dress from him and walked to the mirror to examine the sight of her in it. She tilted her head at her reflection, unsurely. It wasn't all that girly, but... it was still a dress. Ynda in a dress? She was surprised she'd even snuck out to buy it once. Ynda glanced aside at her buddy, allowing him to see her timid expression. "You really think this would suit me...?"
Lemigo nodded convincingly. He repeated his name a few times as if to say: "Absolutely!"
Ynda glanced at the clock, realizing there wasn't much time left. "Oh, hell," she muttered. "I'll just go with it." She looked back at Lemigo. "Get me my black shoes in the meantime." She wasn't very fond of walking around wearing shoes, but she supposed they were required during a dance.
With another enthusiastic nod, the baby jumped back into her closet, after which Ynda turned back to the mirror with a smile. Her little Lemigo wasn't the brightest out there, but she knew he was aware of her attitude - and the thoughts connected to it. If he approved of this outfit, it had to suit her.
-----
"So... what do you think?"
Five minutes had passed, and Ynda was now dressed in her dance outfit. She had also added a red bow to place in her hair at the last moment, figuring it would give her a little something.
Ynda took a hesitant step towards her bed, where Lemigo was seated. After observing her for a moment, he started to bounce happily like before, which Ynda assumed meant his approbation.
With a small smile, she took the smaller alien in her arms and gave him a quick hug. "Thanks, Lemigo..." she mumbled, quickly remembering how he had changed from an annoying baby to a reliable companion. Somehow, he managed to give her faith with just one word, which included faith in this dance.
She placed the baby alien back on her bed and gently pointed a finger at him. "Now remember: stay put this evening. Mommy has some... sort of serious business to attend to. You understand, right?" She sure hoped he did. For as long as she could remember, Lemigo had always used his ability of teleportation to appear on her head during the most uncomfortable situations.
"Lemi, Lemigo," Lemigo nodded loyally. He giggled when Ynda placed a paw on his head, rubbing it for a moment.
"That's my boy." She then checked her appearance in the mirror one more time. The way she looked now couldn't possibly make her stand out heavily, nor could it make her completely invisible to others. Perfect.
Flashing Lemigo one last smile, Ynda waved goodbye and left her room.

EXCIITTTIIINNGGG!! - - - "...I sure hope it looks alright..." The little blue alien said for many a fifth time. His small hands gingerly ran across his neat outfit, straightening it out and pulling the hem of his asymmetrical, three-sleeved jacket. The outfit he wore was quite simple, yet classy enough to attend to a festive occasion. He certainly looked a lot more proper than he usually did. One who knew Nebulos would even notice he had attempted to comb his white hair. Admittedly, it still looked a little shaggy, but one could appreciate the obvious effort he'd put into it. Nebulos, still rather nervous about the idea of accompanying Lunira to the dance, had made sure to leave his room early enough. He'd agreed to meet his date (he still blushed at the word) near the entrance of the hall where the dance was held, and therefore he had wanted to make sure he was here in time, even if that meant he was here approximately 37 minutes before they were to meet each other. He had been a little surprised when he was joined by another early alien, one who wasn't the first person he'd expected to run into. "It looks perfectly fine..." Masurao replied yet again, not even bothering to glance down at the shorter alien next to him anymore. The tone of his voice was as monotone and unreadable as ever. He might as well could be extremely interested in Nebulos's attire, or couldn't care less. The guard was leaning against the wall in his usual fashion, his intense green eyes flashing over to the doors every now and then. He, too, wore a rather simple outfit, one which was considered fashionable on Egriada and one his mother had sent him not so long ago. It had come in handy whenever he needed to accompany the princess to more classy events, such as this one. It wasn't elaborate, so he surely wouldn't be overdressed and draw the attention to himself and away from the princess, but chique enough so he wouldn't clash with the other attendants by being dressed as a native warrior. And still, it was comfortable enough to move around in, just in case anything were to happen and his services as a bodyguard were required. Masurao was pleased with it. "Yeah, I should just leave it..." Nebulos continued apprehensively, running a final hand through his hair. "Thank you." He looked up at the taller blue alien at his side, smiling gratefully at his reassurances, even if they were as dispassionate. Not unlike many other, Nebulos too had the tendency to be slightly unnerved by the bodyguard's stoic presence. But overall, the Luminarian knew he was actually quite a nice guy. He never snapped or snarled without reason, he was generally polite and helpful, even though he hardly ever smiled. He just didn't talk very much. "Where's Niji?" Nebulos inquired after a quiet minute or two, still vaguely fiddling with his shirt. He immediately regretted asking this question when seeing the guard's face, who looked over at the door and narrowed his eyes slightly, as if the door had called him a bad name. "I regret to say that I don't know." Masurao said after a minute, looking away from the door and closing his eyes. His tail flicked to the side gently and the look on his face seemed to be a bit more stern than usual. "She wasn't at her quarters when I went to check, so I headed out to this room instead. She doesn't seem to have arrived yet." He opened his eyes once again, looking back at the doors, his piercing stare drilling holes in it. He hadn't been exactly pleased to find the room abandoned, certainly not during an occasion where the princess was probably looking her most best. And certainly not when Numbuh Infinity had decided to escort her highness, which Masurao had managed to find out just a day before the dance was supposed to commence. "Oh..." said Nebulos unsurely, who naturally guessed the reason of the guard's mood. "Well, Niji is rather punctual, she'll be sure to be here in t--" He broke off when the large doors if the dance hall opened. The small teen perked up, eager to see if it was possibly Lunira who was entering, but was slightly disappointed when it was a group of chattering girls he did not know, who pattered inside. Nebulos dug his hands in his pockets and let out a soft sigh, hunching his shoulders a blushing slightly. Masurao too didn't seem particularly delighted that it wasn't his protectee and crossed his arms and closed his eyes, tilting his head down. The girls skipped past them, some of them turning their heads around to cast a fleeting look at the composed wolfboy against the wall, only to turn around and huddle together, erupting in blushes and hushed giggles. Nebulos looked after them, slightly bewildered at the odd behaviour, while Masurao didn't seem to notice, or either pretended not to notice. Next thing, both blue boys turned their heads to face the door again, waiting.

Originally, it wouldn't have taken much time for Ynda to reach the dance hall. Her room wasn't far from it, and yet she needed a while to get there. This was because the closer she got, the slower she walked. With every step she felt more embarrassed at the thought of her teammates seeing her in this red dress. Perhaps the tutu-part made it too girly after all. But she knew it was no use turning back. There was too little time, and even if there wasn't, she wouldn't have a better outfit to replace her dress with, anyway.
When she finally reached the dance hall, Ynda felt relieved to see only Nebulos and Masurao there. She had never cared much for the wolf operative's opinion, and she knew she had no need to feel embarrassed in front of Nebulos. In fact, his opinion was rather valuable to her. She slowly approached her brother-like friend, her one paw holding the other in front of her. Eventually, she spread her arms to allow him the full view of her in the dress.
"What do you think...?" she asked slightly nervously, pretending Masurao wasn't even there. She didn't think he'd bother to voice his thoughts to her, anyway.

"And that is how you fly at warp speed." Niji stated, placing her arms behind her back with a smile. Numbuh Infinity walked along side her, listening to what he was saying intently,
"That's fascinating, Princess Niji. It must be great to have the ability to fly." He remarked. Niji nodded.
"It is! Too bad humans don't have that ability..." She replied with a hint of sadness in her voice, "But Earthlings have many other great qualities about them." She blushed lightly. Jamal smiled modestly at the indirect compliment. He opened the doors to the large ballroom, and the two teenagers stepped inside.
"Wow, they really did a great job with the decorations, it's all very colorful." Niji gasped amazed, she glanced at the boy at her side. He was preoccupied with observing the brightly lit room filling with other teens. She tapped his shoulder gently, causing him to turn to her expectantly. She glanced away shyly before speaking, "In case I forget to tell you..." She paused and looked back up at him, "I really had a great time tonight." She beamed up at him. Numbuh Infinity returned the smile.
"So did I, Princess." He kissed the back of her hand respectfully, adding a slight bow, "So did I..."
Niji blushed and shyly turned away from him, "Oh! Look the others are here too!" She quickly flew over to them, and her human date following behind her.

"You're so slow!" the younger of the Ganmade siblings complained as she tried to urge her brother to walk faster. Unfortunately, the older sibling could not be hurried unless a certain Chiz girl was known to be waiting for him, and neither of them could be certain that said girl was even ready yet. So Etoile continued in his naturally easy pace and his sister simmered at his side.
"I didn't even think that you wanted to go," he responded, lifting an eyebrow at her while they stalked down the corridor. "What's the rush?"
"I don't! You just walk so sloowwww!" With an exaggerated sigh, the girl slumped over a little bit and dragged next to him, hoping to spur him into walking faster.
Her plans were distracted when she spotted a familiar crowd near the entrance to the dance. Deciding that walking next to her brother was not worth the extra time it took to get there, she broke away with them and sprinted down the hallway, almost screeching to a halt nearby and sending her hair in new waves around her shoulders.
"Ynda!" she greeted with way more enthusiasm than seemed appropriate, given the dance and her dislike for it. Most likely, she was just pleased to see the people. "Nebbie! Gosh, Nebbie, you're so cute! If you didn't have a date, I'd cuddle you forever and ever!" Beaming a row of wide yellow teeth, she flashed a thumbs-up at the little alien before turning to the third member of the group and beaming just as wide. "Masurao! Wow, you all look so nice!"
Although she wasn't one for formal wear herself, she liked to appreciate it on other people, and they all looked much nicer than she felt.
Etoile joined her shortly, smiling a greeting at everyone and digging his hands into the pockets of his jackets. "Hey guys!"

The doors opened again and both boys turned their heads. Nebulos saw it wasn't Lunira, but didn't feel disappointed when he saw who it was instead. "Ynda!" he called out, waving over at her even though his friend had already spotted them. Masurao cast a quick glance at the shorter alien, acknowledging she was there, but didn't comment on the arrival much further. She usually took little notice of his presence, and he was surely never one to speak up first either. The smaller boy chuckled happily and nodded eagerly when Ynda gave her modest presentation, his antennae brightening visibly. "You look lovely, Ynda!" His eyes closed to happy crescents, uttering another whole-hearted laugh. "You should wear dresses more often, even when there isn't a party." He nodded vigorously to endorse his statement. "You look real pretty in them! They look great! Niji wears dresses too, so it wouldn't be--"
Perfectl on cue, the majestic automatic doors opened once again and a dazzling princess Niji walked in. She seemed to radiate some kind of elegance and beauty as she entered the hall, but Masurao had more eye for the person at her side. He narrowed his eyes slightly and pushed himself off the wall. "Excuse me." he said to the smaller aliens, even though none of them had questioned his movement. Masurao would never have a reason to excuse himself when suddenly a yellow-green streak bolted inside the room and came to a rather abrupt stop. It startled Nebulos, who took a quick step to the side, pulling Ynda with him and Masurao too lifted an eyebrow at the sudden arrival. But they soon found out there was little reason to feel threatened, as a very enthusiastic looking Tala beamed down and up at them.
"Nebbie! Gosh, Nebbie, you're so cute! If you didn't have a date, I'd cuddle you forever and ever!" A gentle purple blush rose to meet his cheeks and the small blue boy cast his pale gaze downwards, chuckling shyly and putting a hand to his head to scratch his white locks. "G-gee, thanks, Tala..." he said modestly, using two other arms to tap his index fingers together meekly. He then looked up, face and antennae beaming up at her. "You look real nice, too!" He gestured at her midrif. "I like the belts. They look so funky!" He chuckled merrily, one eye slightly squint to support his everpresent smile. He then turned around when his other friend arrived and flashed his antennae at him. "Etoile, hi! Wow, don't you look dashing!" His eye wandered across the boy's foreign outit. "That looks real fancy!"
When the guard was being addressed, he momentarily glanced down at his suit and shrugged lightly, though he couldn't deny the compliment was appreciated. "Thank you." he replied solemnly, before turning back to the girl in front of them and watching her from head to toe, obviously unaccustomed to see her in this state of attire. He didn't seem to be as stern as he did before, but looked slightly bewildered instead, as if he was trying to place Tala's dressed up state somewhere in his mind. He opened his mouth to say something, and closed it again after a few seconds, one eyebrow half-aloft. ". . . Your hair looks different." was the exclamation that came out, as if it was only now he noticed her hair actually looked green.

Tala grinned madly when Nebulos gestured to her belts, looking gleeful that someone had commented on her rather extravagant choice of accessories. Seeing as the only jewelry she ever adorned was her mother's necklace, she didn't see any point in changing that for the dance. But it appeared that her choice in decoration had been at least decent, even if it wasn't as glamorous as Niji's or Ynda's. "Thanks, Nebbie!"
Adjusting his collar, Etoile smiled a little sheepishly, looking somewhat embarrassed at Nebulos' compliment. "Thanks, mate!" he chirped happily to his friend, although he somewhat hopeful that Nalo would think the same of suit. "I'm nothing compared to you, though," he offered in return, chuckling. "What a lucky Lunira!"
Meanwhile, Tala had fixed a rather perplexed expression onto her wolfish friend. It wasn't like him to make such an obvious observation aloud, much less about something so insignificant as hair. ". . . Yesssss," she drawled slowly, "it is. It's down." Was the image so horrifying that it had startled him speechless? No, wait. He was always speechless. "Is that. . . bad?"

The blush that still lingered on his cheeks intensified profoundly when Etoile mentioned Lunira. Nebulos's reaction was similar to the one before, which consisted out of a a shy chuckle and a scratch of the head, while his shoulders hunched slightly and his gaze was averted to the floor. "Oh well, I..." he chuckled shyly, fiddling with the hem of his shirt embarrassedly. "I hope she-- T-Thank you." he concluded simply, looking back up at the curly-headed boy. "I'm sure Nalo will like it a lot too!" he continued, gesturing at the Telarian's native suit. He grinned widely at his friend, teasing him gently. Nebulos was quite certain Etoile had little to worry about, and that Nalo would believe he looked great even if he was wearing a rag.
He emitted another chuckle and his antennae flickered gently. "I hope they're coming soon..." he said, putting his hands behind his back while a healthy blush was still covering his usually blue cheeks. He leaned to the right slightly, peeking past Etoile to look at the grand doors. "I'm curious to see what she looks like..." That last bit was probably not meant to be voiced out loud, but the Luminarian didn't seem to notice or either just didn't mind. He continued to smile, looking sincerely content as he stood there, anticipating the arrival of his Ursa just-a-bit-more-than-a-friend-friend.

It was down. Yes, Masurao had noticed that.
"Is that. . . bad?"
He turned back to look at her face and saw some insecurity there. He seemed slightly surprised she asked him this, as if she needed reassurance for her hairstyle from him, of all people, for something Masurao had guessed she wasn't interested in. Well, she was a girl, he thought, as if he needed to remind himself of that fact. And they cared a lot about their hair, or so Masurao had been taught by Niji. Well, it didn't look bad, she didn't have to worry about that. "It looks. . ." he began, though he paused there for a second. He seemed to be looking for an appropriate word to describe the unusual change. The word "pretty" came to mind and it startled him, which might've shown for less than a second.
". . . different." he concluded vaguely, shifting his gaze away and lifting an eyebrow at the wall. He seemed preoccupied with his thoughts for a minute, to an extent he even seemed to forget he was supposed to check up on Niji and her escort for that evening.

The two small, feline teenagers soon found the small group forming. Hesitantly approaching, Milo-Lee smiled, trying to ignore the light vermilion blush still on her cheeks. "Hi, guys," She said in a tone oddly sunny for the moody girl, and it was obvious that, despite all her complaining about the dance, she was excited to be there. She naturally started hovering a few inches of the floor, as she often did, considering she was shorter than a lot of the others in the base. She glanced at Tala, who, unsurprisingly, or surprisingly really, since you could never predict the green-haired girl, and Milo-Lee half expected her the wear a dress to surprise people. "Sweet belts, Tala," Normally, the girl wouldn't comment on clothing and outfits, but she had to admit the four belts she was wearing were pretty cool.
Finnick stood beside her, his starry tux sparkling bright a bit where the fluttering Milo-Lee's tail was brushing his shoulder. "Hello," He said with an equally bright smile. He straightened his glasses a bit and glanced around the group, taking note of who was there and who was still missing. It seemed that other than Niji and Infinity, he and Milo-Lee were the only couple there yet.

Etoile tugged nervously at one of his sleeves, smiling at his small Luminarian friend. "I hope you're right," he beamed, tilting his head to the side again while his tail waved loftily behind him. "This is going to be fun, right?"
He beamed lightly at Milo-Lee and Finnick when they approached, hooking his hands behind his back almost humbly. "Hey, you guys! Looking good!" Although he was trying his hardest to behave, his eyes flicked upward for a second to look for a certain girl who wasn't there yet, and he was definitely a cross between relieved and depressed.
Orange eyes regarded the bodyguard for a moment, unsure of what to make of his statement. It looked . . . different. Yeah, that was obvious, it was different! Feeling immensely awkward, like he didn't approve of it or like it was too strange for anyone to really comprehend, she looked away. ". . . Oh."
Quickly, she shifted her attention to Milo-Lee and Finnick to avoid the awkward feeling that was twisting in her stomach. She should have never let Etoile convince her to dress up and be different, because apparently it was bad for everyone. "Hey, guys, hey. Wow, you look really good!" To Milo-Lee, she gave an extra-wide grin, seeming pleased. "Thanks! I can finally put my extensive belt collection to good use!"
Maybe, she secretly hoped, Masurao would be distracted by Niji and she could escape to a secluded room where she could tie her hair up.

Ynda felt a heavy blush cross her face when Nebulos started to compliment her. She hadn't expected to look that great, but hearing him approve of the dress, as cheerful as ever, made her feel relieved as well as grateful.
Just as she was about to thank him, the other boy pulled her along as he took one step aside, while she heard her name at the same time. She turned to spot Etoile and Tala, saw Niji was already there and noticed Milo-Lee and Finnick not much later. She didn't bother to comment on her friends' outfits like they did, but she felt glad no one made a mocking comment about her dress, which she had feared a little.
After observing everyone's different outfits for a moment, Ynda turned back to Nebulos, who had visibly turned shy at the mention of Lunira. As usual, she considered it her cue to step in and nudged him lightly.
"You're blushing, Casanova," she pointed out with a grin, after which she pulled a pondering face for a moment. "Say... would you think this dance might be the perfect opportunity to confess your..." She moved closer to him, whispering behind her paw. "... F-E-E-L-I-N-G-S?"

"Ffft we are going to be late and it's all your fault-- OW! Don't hit me! A black eye is not an accessory I wish to take with m--OW! Stop hitting me!"
"Vibe you were mean to say it was Nalo's fault--"
"Whendidyougetthere?!"
Dramatic as usual, the trio made their way quickly down the corridor. Vibe covered ground quickly with her long strides, Nalo's levitation meant it was easy for her to keep up with the taller girl, and Cyril was now carefully settling himself upon the Cykrian girl's shoulder.
"So why is it Nalo's fault? OW!" Cyril rubbed the side of his face as Nalo lashed out yet another limb in annoyance at the blame being pinned on her.
"Well..."
~wobbly flashback effect~
Knock knock knock.
"Errr... come in...?" Within the icy caverns of the bedroom, the blue skinned girl was just adding the finishing touches to her attire for the dance in the grand hall. For the night she had donned what was a little black dress, satin with a ribbon halter neck, to which she had added a beautiful deep blue skirt of several layers of a see-through material, not unlike a very fine netting, which seemed to have small fragments of crystal woven into the fabric. It was almost like a floor-length tutu, coloured like the reflection of the early night sky in the ocean. A simple shawl of a similar blue had just been shrugged onto her shoulders, and a black band around her neck was the base for many small blue beads, which painted the pattern of the blue choker across the curve of her neck and half the span of her collarbone. A few silver bracelets sat upon the dresser, to be added to her wrist in the next few moments, and her tail remained twined around her leg, and was going to stay that way for the dance. Many aliens dancing and clashing tails was not a good plan.
The door was pushed open, and the grey alien she knew all to well floated into view. She was also fully dressed in fine clothes only fit for a princess, but Vibe was distracted by the frown on her face.
“Problem?” she asked, as Nalo closed the door and drifted over to the mirror. A thin tendril twined out of the top of her shoulder, apparently avoiding the dress, maybe it wasn’t as durable as her other clothes? and the limb looped around her hair, pulling it up into a messy ponytail, before she let it drop again.
So Nalo was stuck for what to do with her hair, okay, this could be fixed. Vibe had already tamed her rough bangs and tied the rest of her long hair into a simple ponytail, and Nalo’s hair was much easier to work with, should be a simple task, right?
But the pair toiled for almost half an hour and still they had not settled on a hairstyle that they believed suited her. About to give up and just tolerate the boring ponytail, Vibe clicked her fingers as an idea flashed in her brain. Just a few minutes later, the two locks of hair which framed her face had an elegant twirl in the middle, giving her hair-do the edge it needed. Both pleased with Vibe’s handiwork, they had completely lost track of time, and didn’t even bother to check the clocks; they only knew that they were running late. So Vibe threw on those remaining bracelets, while Nalo examined her reflection again,; obsessively smoothing down the many layers of fabric in her green dress, adjusting the light-coloured ruffles peeking out of the sleeves and skirt, tweaking with the darker sashes slung loosely around her waist and hanging from her hips. In the few seconds it had taken Vibe to perfect her outfit, Nalo was having doubts about her appearance again, and she literally needed to be dragged from the room…
~wobbly flashback effect~
“…So that’s why we’re going to be late and it’s all Nalo’s fau--OW!”
“But the dance doesn’t start for about ten minutes,” Cyril informed them, pulling out a shiny golden pocket-watch, then showing it them. Vibe cursed aloud and no doubt Nalo was swearing in her head.
“Why are you unhappy? You’re going to be on time! And it’s going to be AWESOOOME!” Cyril’s outfit, for those who are wondering, was a simple black tuxedo with a rainbow waistcoat, but the black of the tuxedo was covered by flowery patterns, all a silvery-rainbow colour which shimmered in the light. He’d even found some black socks and shoes to cover his feet for the night, but as it made it uncomfortable to walk, he would be travelling by air for most of the night.
Finally arriving at the hall and taking note that it already sounded full of activity, Nalo experienced another shy bout and pulled back from the door. Vibe rolled her eyes with a small, sympathetic smile and gently pulled her along into the room by the wrist.
“HELLOOOOO LADIES! AND LADETTES!” was the yell Cyril enunciated their entrance with, causing Vibe to roll her eyes with a scowl and Nalo to lower her head in embarrassment, although she might have already been doing that when she entered the room in the first place.
