This was a fic I posted back on the other fourm that I'm kind of interested in seeing what you guys think of. Enjoy part 1!
Breaking Bonds
By Prettywitchiusaka
August 11th 2007, a rather lackluster day for many inhabitants of Earth, but not to all. For exactly one year ago, a tyranical old villain known as Grandfather was awakened. Singlehandedly, he almost annihalated an entire organization known as the Kids Next Door, as well as almost reigned supreme over all of humanity with his god like powers. Most common civillians have completely forgotten about Grandfather's reign by this time, while most heavily involved in the incident have not forgotten. And most likely, many of those individuals have been trying to cope with the trauma caused by the incident. Or that at least that's what Patton, or Numbuh 60 Drill Sergeant Supreme of Kids Next Door Arctic Base thought as he began to complete locking down the base for the night, so as to insure that there would be no intruders.
As he continued to do so, the young Drill Sergeant couldn't help but ponder why he was even thinking about this. And yet in his heart, he already knew the answer, because he too was trying to overcome the trauma he had suffered that fateful day. Friends who knew of his suffering had tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault, for he had no control over his own thoughts and actions. But even they could not help, for the guilt and trauma he gained from that incident was far too great to supress so easily. Sighing, the raven haired boy gazed up to see the moon as he recalled those vivid memories of that day.
"Well...today is August 11th," he said. " The day I unwillingly betrayed everything and everyone I care about...And the day that I hurt you...my beloved..." he finished in a melancholy tone as he continued to gaze at the moon, sorrow clearly detailed in his gentle black eyes as he did so. Sighing once more, the young Drill Sergeant's mind was still preoccupied with these thoughts as he went to leave his office.
"Gee, I never knew you could be so melodramatic," said a voice from across the room.
Assuming that the voice belonged to an intruder, Patton angrily whipped out a 2x4 gun and aimed it in the direction the voice came from, a look of anger clearly detailed on his handsome face as he did so.
"Who's there!?" he said, his gruff voice holding back no anger towards this person. "Show yourself!"
"Why must you always assume that you're facing an inturder?", replied the person, a stern tone clear in the person's rather femenine sounding voice. "Besides...you won't be able to pull that trigger once you know my real identity".
" Really?," he replied half-heartedly, thingying an eyebrow in disbelief. "And what makes you think I won't just shoot you and arrest you any second now?"
"Trust me," the person replied once more. "You won't".
Although suspicion was still clearly detailed on his face, the young Drill Sergeant walked over towards the lounge area of his office and turned on the lights. But as he did so, shock and surprise came to him as he saw who the real 'intruder' was. That person turned out to be none other than Rachel, or Numbuh 362, Supreme Leader of the Kids Next Door. She sat perched atop one of the stools in the lounge area, a stern look clearly detailed on her beautiful face as she sat with her legs and arms crossed in a stern manner. Feeling like such an idiot for having not recognized her just by her voice, he opened his mouth to apologize to his old friend/superior.
"N-Numbuh 362!," he stuttered, putting the gun away in an embarrassed manner. "I'm so sorry. If I'd known that was you, I never would've-"
"It's alright," the young bloned replied, cutting him off in formal manner.
Upon seeing that she was not angry with him mistaking her identity, the raven haired boy sighed in relief. And yet he still began to ponder why she was even at Arctic Base in the first place. He figured that maybe it was last minute business, but since he knew Rachel well enough, he could see by the look on her face that she had a very urgent reason for visiting him in person at this hour of the night. Deciding he needed his questions answered now, he looked up to face his superior and opened his mouth to speak.
'Say," he began to ask. "How did you even get in here?"
"A former top spy never reveals her secrets," replied the young Supreme Leader.
"You snuck in through the back, didn't you?" he asked, thingying an eyebrow in suspicion.
"That's classified," she replied rather quickly. "Besides," she continued. "That's not the reason I came here."
"Oh really," replied the raven haired boy, staring at her suspiciously. "Then why are you here?"
"I'm here because I need to talk to you about something" she began, pausing for a brief moment as she did. " Something regarding what happened here during the ZERO incident."

Thanks. And don't you worry, I'll be uploading teh next part right now!
Upon hearing that statement, Patton felt himself cringe in fear. Yes, it was true that something happened here during the ZERO incident, something he was sure would not be fine by Rachel's moral standards. Hence why he never mentioned it to her. And yet somehow, she had discovered what went on during the attack. Still feeling a slight pulse of fear running through him, he looked up to face his Supreme Leader and opened his mouth to speak.
"Wha-What are you talking about?", he asked, the feeling of nervousness clearly seeping through his voice as he did so.
"What I'm talking about is that you didn't necessarily write down everything that went on here in the report you handed to me a few days after.", she said. "Events particularly centered around you".
"Who told you that?", he asked, nervousness seeping through his voice once more.
"I have my sources", the young blonde replied sternly.
Upon hearing that sentence, the raven haired boy immediately cursed the name of his friend Jeffery Simmons or Numbuh 600 under his breath, assuming that he had been the one to spill the beans to their leader. Curious as to how much she was told, the raven haired boy sternly looked back at his Supreme Leader, ready to ask her a question.
"How much did he tell you?", he asked, thingying his eyebrow in curiosity.
"Well", she began. "He told me that you signed a contract with Grandfather, selling both your soul and your youth to him. But for what reason he didn't say. Is this true?", she asked, awaiting an answer.
But as soon as she asked that question, silence erupted though out the room. The silence however, ended once Patton gave a small sigh, looking sternly back at his Supreme Leader once more as he opened his mouth to speak.
"Yes", he said. "It's true".
Silence however, only became apparent once more as he uttered those three words of truth. This silence though, only came to an an end as Rachel uncrossed her arms and legs to be in a more comfortable position, finally opening her mouth to speak as a stern look remained on her beautiful face.
"Well Patton", she began. "I have only one thing to ask you" she said, the silence once again resurfacing for a mere moment. "Are you out of your mind!?
What the hell were you thinking!?", she shouted, not holding her rage back for a second.
"Look, I only did what I thought was right at the time!" he shouted, beginning to defend himself.
'What you thought was right at the time!?" she angrily questioned. "You practically made a deal with the devil! And for what!?"
"Oh, so now you're accusing me of being an idiot because I followed my heart!", he angrily replied back to her.
"Well in this case I am!" she answered in a rather angry tone, proving that she was incredibly pissed of with him now.
"Well I'm sorry, but I do what I think is right for the situation, regardless of how stupid it may seem to others!", he shouted, feeling his anger continuing to grow as he did so.
"Even if it cost you your life or even your soul?' she asked, thingying her eyebrow in confusion.
"Yes", he replied rather bluntly. "Because I would rather do what I think is right then not do anything at all".
"But that's just it", she replied. "What you thought was right was stupid, and more than that you don't care if it had consequences applying to you".
"Look, it's not like I don't regret what I did!" he angrily stated. "The whole reason I even signed the contract and gave myself up to that bastard went up in smoke anyway".
"Oh really?", she questioned rather sternly. 'And what was your reason anyway?"
"Well...I can't exactly tell you", he replied as light pink blush crawled onto his cheeks, knowing full well that her question must remain unanswered.
"What do you mean you can't tell me?" she asked in a rather annoyed manner.
"I just can't", he replied.
"Why not?", she asked once more.
"Because I can't!" he shouted, becoming annoyed with her relentlessness.
"So you're just going to leave me in the dust?" she asked. "You're just going to leave me to assume that your reason was a negative one? That perhaps it was a dark reason, or maybe even a selfish reason. "
Patton felt his hands turn into fists as she continued to question him, his anger growing with every passing second. Couldn't she just accept no as an answer and walk away? Why could she not accept that fact that he couldn't tell her his reason for doing what he did? Of course, he did have a reason for not telling her, and that reason was that he was not sure how she would react to his real reason, let alone his true feelings for her. But as her questioning continued, it only caused the young Drill Sergeant to become more angery. This action then finally caused him to open his mouth. But what came out of his mouth, was probably the most impulsive thing he would ever say.
"I only did that for you!", he shouted, silencing her in the process.

So you're interested in heasring what she'll say huh? Well, your answer is just about to be revealed! Oh, BTW, do you think that Patton selling hos soul is a bit extreme?
'Wha...What?", the young blonde asked, a look of surprise and confusion clearly detailed on her beautiful face.
"That's right!", he yelled. "I signed that contract to spare you from his wrath, because I didn't want you to become that disgusting, inhumane monster! But in the end it was all for nothing, because that bastard tricked me into surrendering and I ended up turning you into the same monster I'd become! So go ahead! You can think of me as a traitor, you can decommission me for all I care! But I know in my heart that I did the right thing, because I wanted to save you instead of myself!", he said, finally letting out a sigh as he unclenched his hands. "That might seem stupid to you, but the truth is that I need to protect you Rachel...I want to protect you. And all because...I love you..."
Once he uttered those last three words, a silence like no other spread across the room as Rachel sat there, a look of pure shock clear on her beautiful face as she absorbed everything she just heard. The raven haired boy on the other hand, tilted his head down in embarrassment as his cheeks became stained with red blush. His embarrassment came from what he said, for he had not intended on telling her his true feelings. Him telling her was an impulsive move, for it came out of anger more than willingly wanting to tell her. So now he stood there, waiting to hear the answer he deserved for making such an impulsive remark.
"Thank you", replied the angelic voice of the young blonde, causing him to look up and stare at his Supreme Leader in shock.
"Thank you?", he asked, thingying his eyebrow in confusion.
"Yes, thank you", she replied. "For being selfless and thinking of someone else in such a dire situation. I never once thought of you as a traitor, but I am happy to now know what your reason was for what you did. As for your confession, well...I'm afraid I can only be your friend and superior. I don't mind you having deeper feelings for me, but just remember that my feelings are different than yours."
As she said those words, Patton let out a small sigh. Although happy that she had accepted his answer, at the same time he felt saddened by her response to his confession. But because the answer she gave him was the one he expected, he felt that he could accept her honesty. But as he went to tell her this, the raven haired boy noticed a stray tear run down her delicate cheek. Confused by this, he began to ponder just why it is she was beginning to cry, but he couldn't think of any reason until a revelation hit him. Now having a hunch as to what her tear meant, he walked over to her and caught the tear in his gloved finger as it ran off her cheek, causing Rachel to stare at him in surprise.
"If that's true, then why are you crying?", he asked, thingying his eyebrow in confusion.
Upon checking her face to realize it felt moist, the young blonde quickly wiped away the salt tears that stained her cheeks. She then looked up to face Patton, prepared to give him an answer.
"I...I'm not crying", she said, acting as though nothing was wrong at all.
"I beg to differ, you are", replied the young Drill Sergeant as he crossed his arms, not buying her act for a second.
"I'm not crying", she stated, becoming defensive.
"I'm not buying that for a second", he said rather ruthlessly. "Now why are you crying?"
"Oh, so now you're demanding an answer from me?" she asked in an angry tone.
"You're damn right I am", he replied in the same angry tone.
"Sorry Numbuh 60, but you don't order me around! So why should I give you an explanation!?", she angrily asked.
"Because I have a right to an explanation!", he yelled, surprising his superior in the process. "Now why are you crying!?"
A moment of silence then cut across the room as Patton sternly stood there, waiting for his answer as Rachel determined what kind of answer she should give him. On the one hand, by telling him her own feelings she'll risk his life. But on the other hand, him telling her his true feelings was pressuring her to do the same. She knew she shouldn't, but for some reason, she listened to her pained heart as opposed to her brain this time as she opened her mouth to speak.
"Alright!", she said as her voiced obviously cracked, prepared to give him an answer. "What I just said to you Patton...those aren't my true feelings entirely. Because I too felt terrible about having to fight you as well! That's why I resisted so much! That's why I let you defeat me so easily! So yes, I understand that Grandfather caused you pain, but he also caused me pain by turning you into that monster! In fact when we were fighting the only thing I could think of was that I wanted the Patton I know back, the Patton I care about", she said silencing the room in the process, causing the young Drill Sergeant to stare in shock.
"I'll admit, you constant impulsiveness and your lack of responsibility drive me up the wall but I...I...I...I can't help but be attracted to what a brave, strong, kind, wonderful person you are!

A romantically dramatic exchange between Patton and Rachel I see here, marked by uncertainty and guilt over Grandfather's rampage, if I may call it that. This exchange may be darker than the romantically happy endings I've come to expect from Allie's stories around Nigel and Rachel's romantic friendship, but the variety should be fun to think through.

Thanks C7Angel. I will admit that it's a little bit darker tan most of my stories, but then I again I guess you could say that most of the drama I've created surrounding Rachel and Patton during the ZERO incident is ratehr dark in tone.
Oh BTW, here comes part 4. Enjoy!
And once she uttered those words, the young blonde tilted her head away from his gaze as hot tears began to stream down her face. But as her words repeated themselves over and over in his head, the raven haired boy realized that his earlier assumption had been correct. She loved him, as much as he loved her. But because he only believed that her feelings never extended past friendship, he had never seen the deeper meaning of her actions towards him, which made him realize that he had always been causing her pain. Feeling his heart break upon this realization, Patton quickly brought up her face to meet his handsome yet regretful looking face as he wiped away her tears with the tip of his fingers.
"Oh Rachel", he began. "Rachel I'm so sorry".
"Sorry? For what?", she asked, her angelic voice now clearly filled with concern.
"Because all this time, you've been in love with me", replied the young Drill Sergeant. "But because I held my feelings back, I've caused you pain. I thought the only time I ever hurt you was ZERO, but now I realize that I've done nothing but bring you misery", he said, regret clearly shining in his gentle black eyes as he tilted his head away from her gaze.
"Oh, it's okay", replied the young blonde as she sweetly stroked the back of his head.
"Let me make it up to you", he said in an almost whispered, yet determined voice.
'What?", she asked, surprised by his reply as he brought his head back up to meet her gaze once more.
"Let me make it up to you by giving you what you want", he began. "In other words...let me be your significant other...", he finished in a whispered, almost romantic tone.
While this caused the young blonde to blush, immediately her eyes glazed over with a look of sorrow. For in spite of what her true answer was, she knew what answer she had to give him in reply.
"I can't", she said, her voice clearly emitting a sorrowful tone.
"Why not?", he asked.
"Because Patton", she began. "I'm the Supreme Leader of the Kids Next Door. I can't allow myself a luxury that may cloud my judgement."
"Oh come one", he said softly. "It's not like there's a rule that says we can't be together."
"No, but even so", she continued. "I can't risk your safety."
"Well I can", he said in a very determined manner.
"You could get hurt because of me", she said in a rather melancholy tone.
" Then I'll just wait and heal like everyone else" he said as his rare, genuine smile apperared on his face. "I'll be fine."
'You can't promise me that", she replied in the same melancholy tone.
"I know", he replied rather glumly. "But I would like to work towards that as a goal for you."
Surprised by his words, Rachel continued to sit there as he opened his mouth to speak once more.
"Come on Rachel", he said in a whispered, yet determined tone. 'Don't throw away the happiness you want. You work so hard and you deserve to have what your heart desires.
"In fact", he began. "being more than your friend...would be the one way to prove my love to you in all forms."
"Really?", she asked curiously.
"Yes", he replied. "Because I know that by doing so, you'll be happy."
A moment of silence was one again thrusted upon them as Rachel sat there, touched by his words as he continued to smile at her. Although the young blonde would not admit it, she knew that one way or another his declerations were winning her over.
"So please Rachel", he continued. "Let me make you happy...I know I can make you happy."
And with that, the raven haired boy gently caressed her cheeks and he gently yet passionately kissed her on the lips. Although taken back by his sudden action at first, the young blonde eventually was enchanted by the kiss as she closed her eyes, kissing back with the same amount of passion as he had delivered. After what seemed like an eternity, the two kids broke their lip lock, continuing to stare at each other dreamingly as if the moment had never ended.
"Well?", the raven haired boy asked, patiently awaiting his answer.
And after a mere moment of silence, the wait ceased as the young blonde released a small sigh, opening her mouth to speak as she did so.
"Well...normally I wouldn't go along with this" replied the young Supreme Leader. "But because you're so determined to make this work", she said as a smile formed on her face. " I think I can break my own rule for the one I love", she replied, causing the young Drill Sergeant to chuckle deviously.
" I knew you'd see it my way", he replied deviously, his usual devious smile surfacing onto his face as he did so.
"Oh really?" she replied in a thingyy tone. 'And what would you have done if I said no?"
"I would have kept pestering you until you said yes" he replied in a similar thingyy tone. "That or until you hit me, whichever came first."
Upon hearing his joke, the young blonde began to laugh. Finding his joke rather amusing himself, he began to chime in with her laughter. But once their laughter ended, a moment of silence came upon them. This silence however, was cut short by Rachel opening her mouth to speak.
"So", she began in a now chipper tone. "Can you feel your guilt suppressing?"
"Well...", he began. "It's going to take awhile before it all goes away. But...I think it won't take long."
Smiling deviously at each other, the young Drill Sergeant leaned his handsome face into her beautiful face, leading his beloved angel into a passionate kiss once more. Only this time, Rachel deepened the kiss by resting her soft hands on his warm chest as he wrapped his arms around her skinny waist.
As they kissed it seemed as though everything else around them melted into oblivion, putting the two lovers into a moment of eternity. And as their eternal moment continued, they broke their previous bond, a bond of leadership and friendship. And in doing so, created a new bond, a bond of leadership and eternal love.
The End

Aww; this was very sweet! I liked it!! ;D Drill Seargent & Supreme Leaduh!
Interesting couple! I haven't seen a lot of this so it is unique.
And I could the story playing out in my head, good job with the imagery here.
Patton really does need to be in the limelight more. *giggles*
Nice fic, I liked it! ^^

Thanks WallysChika. True it's not a really popular couple, but I think that's what makes it so unique is that not many people consider it. I agree that Patton needed a little more limelight, seeings as how we didn't really get to know his character all that well in the series( hence one of teh reason I pray they decide to do some form of KND spin-off focused on characters like Patton).
Really? I'm glad to see that the stroy was playing out in your head. You ca expect more from me in up coming months, since I'm planning to do both a summer story and a tie in story in the next little while once school begins to wind down.

(nodding in recollection) Yes. I remember your points about forbidden love between Patton and Rachel, prettywitch, and it would seem that that rule was... surpassed, if I may use that word, in the end. I remember a point of discussion in which Patton and Rachel seemed like a more mature version of Wally and Kuki, and this "forbidden love" aspect might be consistent with such a comparison. Overall, it was a good drama to think through.

Thanks C7Angel. I know it seems illogical that Rachel would break a rule she set for herself, but I kind of think that them actually being together while being forbidden to love each other is an interesting concept. I will agree that they are a more amture Wally/Kuki dynamic, or at least judging from every thing else I've written about these two, but the only difference is that Patton is willing to admit his feelings to the one he loves where Wally would never admit to Kuki his feelings unless he felt it were truly necessary.
Anyway, I'm very glad you've enjoyed the story as well. If I may ask, what were your favorite parts? I know it seems odd to ask, but I enjoy asking people what parts they enjoyed the most.

I don't want to be a person of judging here (even though I'm actually one of those people. ^^; ) I disagree of "not so popular". I actually do think 60/362 is popular, it was before 1/362 came onto the scene. 'Least, I think it did. Not really for fanfiction, but for fanart; definitely. That's just me, though. I'm not a 60/362 shipper, and I never will be. But nice story Prettywitch. I rarely look at...erm... "rivaling" couple fanfics/fanart. (I'm sorry if this...erm... offends you ) ... And, I'm going to be honest about something; I think it's time to reveal it. I've been keeping this to myself for a little while, I guess I'll let it out. I hope you don't hate me for this. I've come to think that I'm disliking 60/362 more than 1/5 now... ^^;;; I guess it's becoming weird to me, like 1/5 is. It's makes me feel really weird and I don't like it. Numbuh 60 has a real gruffy-voice and... I can... see him as a jock when he's older. (yet, again that's just me) and I've really fallen in love with my version of Rachel. It's like 1/5 to me; I don't like 1/5 because they're weird to me together. (I love Nigel with my heart, and it's just... Abby has a real deepened voice, and the third-person mode and the earrings and...yeah. ^^; ) Same with Patton. He's buff, he has kinda' a gruffy voice to me and his chin is mightyness. ... But his VA is freaking smoking. (Trust me. Matt Levin is H-O-T-T.) And it me that really doesn't fit with Rachel... >.< Like GoldenFlither said when I revealed why I disliked 1/5 so much, "You don't see them fitting together! " And it's for 60/362 too. I can see them as good friends, or a bro/sis relationship though. ^^ But I have had a thought or two of writing kinda a friendship oneshot in the past. Maybe I'll work on it. ^_^ ... Uh. You can beat me to a pole now if you want to. *takes off glasses* Okay, I'm ready.

Oh, by "not popular" I meant I personally have not seen a lot of support for this coupling. For example, this is the FIRST 60/362 fanfic ever written on our PW forum in all the years KND's been alive, and I think that's saying something as PW expand to ship a variety of couples. I see more 3/4 and 1/362 fanfics and fanart than anything on DA and fanfiction.net. And 60/362 wasn't even offered as a possible couping on the Panda Warrior Forum...I mean, if it was it wasn't talked about much. Hardly at all really; I certainly didn't notice. It didn't STAND OUT to me, I should say. PW hopped on the Courting Commanders Train (as it was known at the time) much faster than the 60/362 train. '^^ Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I didn't join a lot of forums so I don't know how the rest of the KND Population perceived 60/362. But from what I have seen, this coupling really does not receive a lot of attention. Definitely no where NEAR as much as 3/4, 2/5, 1/362, Sonya/Lee, 23/35, Lizzie/Herbie....etc. And if there is a shipping name for 60/362 I haven't heard of it enough in the KND fanbase to know it very well as I do the others. But I don't think couplings should be disregarded just because of their voices. Patton's voice may be a bit deep, but he's a commander of the Cadets and 362 commands the KND. I can kinda, somewhat see how that would work. Also, I personally don't think that the fact Abby speaks in the third person or wears cool earring or has Cree Summers voice is greatly affects to possibility of shipping 1/5. I did like 1/5 one point, because I thought it was more about their relationship and personality towards each other in the show more than about how they looked or sounded together. 1/5 shippers did have their amount of proof, which I respected and understood: 5 got 1 into the KND 5 felt responsible for him losing his hair (supposedly) 5 was his second in command 5 kept him in line 5 was always saving him i grew rather attached to 1/5 fanfics myself....but i saw just 5 more as the big sister and I didn't see any romantic tension between the two as I saw with the chemistry of 2/5. I saw 2/5 as a more...shall I saw, "relatable" couple to me. Because I love pairing "the smart/misunderstood/geeky clown" with "The cool one". It just balances out. And I don't really think Abby has a deep voice. I mean, it didn't seem like it to me. It had to be somewhat different than her big sister Cree's so that you could note a distinct difference in the fact that they were voiced by the same voice actor, but they had to be relatively the same so that you knew they were sisters. And i think Cree Summers did a nice job of giving them two different pitches as it worked for her. I didn't think it was deep personally, I thought it was pretty cool. ^^ And it nicely balanced that Abby was the tomboy and Kuki was the girly girl...sort of like how before Kari came Sora was the tomboy and Mimi was the girly girl....or in 02 it was Kari as the girly one and Yolei as the tomboy (and she was boy crazy), or in 03 that Rika was the tomboy and Jeri was the girly one. In light of Abby's voice, the fact remained that Abby was still a girl too. She had feelings and everything just like girls. She crushed on Maurice and got weak-kneed around him just like her sister, and she got jealous of Numbuh two talking about other girls. She read girly magazines. She kinda reminds me of Kim Possible in that she's the spy that can do flips and everything and still look good doing it. And the earrings matched with the baseball cap showed that she was a cool fighter, but also a girl with attitude. And I thought her voice portrayed that rather well too. ^^ I guess I just don't really see what Abby's voice and how she looks and her personality really has to do with any feelings she may have towards a boy....any boy...

Okay. ^^ I just didn't want any trouble. ^^;; Sorry... I guess because I'm probably the BIGGEST 1/362 shipper here and now I'm having some couples mess with it. But that's okay. But I'm going to stand down and let them do there thing, because different shippers shouldn't argue or fight. They should be friends.
